ADS Off-Road Racing Shocks - Information, Pictures, & BS Thread

@rob1208 looks killer man and I'm glad you like it! You could have stopped by ADS in Tucson to show em your new set up haha. When were you in town?

 

Thanks man and thats EXACTLY what Matt was telling me to do! haha. I was out there Monday afternoon 7/27 and left Wednesday morning 8/29. My cousin and her family live out there and after visiting for the first time, I may have to make another trip out there soon. Definitely looks like a lot of places to test out my suspension.

 

Awesome stuff @rob1208! So should I look into getting those clamps the go from the reservoir to the shock body on the rear shocks? I dont have those... Or should I not worry about the reservoirs snapping off? Im guessing they are there for a reason and the reservoir is threaded onto the mount of shock body?

Only the fronts have a clamp holding the resevoir to the truck

^THIS... Should I hit up someone to track down a pair? Or is it not that big of an issue to not have them? I never noticed them until I saw you guys with 'em, then I was like, "Uhhh... my shocks didn't come with those" I just dont know how much abuse the resi will take before it falls off, but then again its ADS so might just be a precautionary thing or to strengthen if they get drilled by a kicked up rock or stick.

 

Not yet, but I will. Just wondering if you guys had any insight on if they are really needed or not. ADS would know best now wouldn't they?

I'll be at ADS tmrw morning and can ask for you man, but I know they're definitely a cleaner look, and peace of mind knowing your piggyback is really secured to the shock body

 

@T4C0CH40S That would be awesome. I wouldn't be able to call 'em till wed. (Im a graves guys, so I sleep all day lol) and I work tomorrow. I know it wouldn't matter if I wait a day to call 'em.

So you guys that have the clamps, did they get thrown in w/ your shocks, or did you have to buy 'em separate? Just curious.

 

Same here man, I get off at 0800 but have a big purchase to finalize over there! With them listed as accessories they may be extra, I'll double check with them for sure

 

I didn't see them as an extra line item in my receipt and I didn't specifically ask for it so I guess it came with it. MCM's website shows 2 pics, one with and one without:

Alright gents, per Brian at ADS depending on the lift, he said that with some applications they wouldn't use the billet clamps since they would make contact with the frame. Now after looking at your pics @freddirt I don't understand why these 2.5 0-2" Lift piggybacks for 2nd gen tacomas would be any different....they should all mount the same in my mind

Using your pics for reference @freddirt you seem to have the same setup as @rob1208 and many others with the same rear piggybacks. @M C M could you help us out here? Why wouldn't all these come with the billet clamps or is there a reason why some don't, as shown on your website (Link)?



***EDIT: Okay So after looking at a couple setups more closely I can see the reservoirs are slightly different in length (pic below) as are the shock bodies themselves. I do know ADS sells different size shaft lengths for stock replacement rear shocks thus changing the size of shock body and resi...lots of variables but some clarity would help everybody

** UPDATE **
Just got a response back from Matt. Said "Some have the 2.0 rest and some have the 2.5. Its not really necessary"

Not sure that really helps since Stefen pointed out the resi's are different.

 

I have run them both ways, and never had an issue. Some use the 2.0 resi and there isnt a clamp for them. We have also been through alot of different resi set ups. I work pretty close with ADS developing alot of the Toyota products, and especially over the last year, we have tried alot of different things with them. I wouldn't stress not having the clamps. It would take alot to actually break them off.
