You keep repeating this stupid statement and I keep telling you are wrong...
Hilux has an option to be fully loaded and it has absolutely all safety futures that are listed in US. If you think its missing something let us know.... what is that is missing ?
And even in that configuration still costs less...
    Stop repeating that crappy statement
Toyota went to midsize with Tacoma because they wanted to compete in full size with Tundra. Plus there was no way to reuse parts from 4runners etc on tiny compact Tacoma.
I bet Toyota did 0 research on what size truck people would buy, they just wanted a Tacoma to fill the void behind Tundra..

    Even comes with 6 airbags
Here all the safety items are listed there

Wouldn't it "fill the void" as a small compact truck?

They wanted to compete with the other manufacturers who also realized that Americans and the population in general is getting larger. Taller, fatter, and need more room.

Easy buddy, I'm talking about the Thailand base model that people keep pointing out the ridiculously low base price on.

Yes, you are right, the European model of Hilux could probably pass all the crash testing here well since it passes in Sweden which has a very strict crash test standard. Then again, as we've debated, the UK or German model of Hilux isn't that much smaller than a Tacoma and carries nearly the same, if not a little more, price tag.

My point is that the Hilux being available here wouldn't translate to a cheap truck returning to North America. It'd just be another flavor of ice cream for the same price.

    BTW Hilux:

Wheelbase Crew Cab: 3,085 mm (121.5 in)
Length Crew Cab: 5,335 mm (210.0 in)
Width Crew Cab: 1,855 mm (73.0 in)
Height Crew Cab 1,820 mm (71.7 in)

    Tacoma:
Wheelbase Crew Cab: 127.8 in (3,246 mm)/127.2 in (3,231 mm) (BTW I have no idea why two lengths are listed, I'll just post them both)
Length Crew Cab: 208.1 in (5,286 mm)
Width Crew Cab: 74.7 in (1,897 mm)
Height Crew Cab: 70.1 in (1,781 mm)

They are within inches @BlueT and @SwollenGoat. BlueT how about you calm down with the offensive comments and slow down to read what I say. You have good points some time and every time you blast away you just look like a closed minded idiot. The Hilux and Tacoma are nearly the same size and if the Hilux was here the pricing/features would be similar to the Tacoma. All we would gain would be the added payload, which would be nice but not critical since most people don't use these trucks for payload. We wouldn't gain any of the third world poverty entry models or the Diesel.

Which is fine. I'm not saying people shouldn't try to get what they want in a truck

TBH a poverty truck is probably missing lots of the safety stuff that is mandatory in the USA. I wish I could check what is missing, but I can't read any of the South Asian languages lol. I'd guess, on the entry model that gets cited so often, it's missing at least VSC, side impact airbags, and maybe even more.

Size is fine (sure I would prefer smaller, but hey) it's that 2000+ lbs payload and diesel engine I want. Mainly for a Four Wheel Camper, not sure how the Tacoma guys are getting away with the FWC on theirs...they are well over payload when loaded.

To get the 2000# payload and stick with Toyota, I have to get a RCLB Tundra...and deal with dismal fuel economy. With the HiLux you could get 25-30 mpg...the Tundra will get around 10-13 loaded.

While I don't need it for a false sense of security...I am totally fine with all the safety equipment...and happen to like power windows and such. I do like my manual trans and t-case tho'.

Yup, but the thing is the Diesel isn't coming here.... yet. I think the Diesel arguement has been beat into the ground. The more I hear and read the more I realize it's really a wash after all the costs are considered for most people. Really if the Colorado diesel succeeds and they make more than 30,000 of them a year I could see Toyota jumping in, maybe at the 6 year refresh. I think Toyota's problem is that they don't want to do the work to get their diesel over here because they don't have a bunch of vehicles where it would fit well. Ford, GM, and Fiat/Crysler have other vans, trucks, and SUV's that get good fleet sales where the Diesel can fit as well. Ford has hinted a few times now that they brought over the Diesel for the full sized Transit to prepare themselves in case the market becomes favorable to lighter duty diesel trucks. In fact, they are expanding the Kansas assembly plant even though there really isn't any more F150 or Transit production necessary... Can anyone say Ranger. I'm joking, they probably need more space or something silly, but it'd be cool if that signaled they were quietly tooling up for a 2017 Ranger.

A Diesel Tacoma could do the same thing, just with less payload. I get that you want that payload, but it's pretty rare for someone to even care about the payload specifications on a midsized truck here. I mean, you can't even fit a standard pallet in the back of a 1/4 ton (bed to narrow) let alone whether it can take the weight of the load.

I dunno, the current Tacoma is popular because other manufactures left the market...no one really updated the mini truck either...it was an afterthought. If they would of concentrated on efficiency instead of the ever ballooning size of the compact truck..might of been different. The other thing is 1/2 tons are getting nearly the same or better mileage than the compacts, plus being close in price as well. Why buy a compact then. Perhaps if we had a choice of a 30 mpg mini-truck that cost considerably less, things would be different.

When the T100 evolved into the 1st gen Tundra, I think they should of stopped there, and offered the LC70 as the heavy duty truck. Those will the same as the American counterpart and get better fuel economy. That's what I mean by staying quirky. They'll never have the sales as the F-Series...I would like to think they still sell though.

They started off hot and heavy, even flirted with the 3/4-1 ton market, then the economy crashed. I wouldn't be surprised if the Tundra goes the way of the FJ Cruiser.

Or Hilux costing more than Tacoma...?

This was not correct the first time you posted, its still not correct.

That's why I said challenge. No one really knows for sure.

Unfortunately compact trucks still have nearly the same brick like aerodynamics of a full size. Unless you count Diesel, it would be very difficult to hit that 30 mpg barrier. Actually, I could see a bunch of success coming soon for a Ram 700 or Hyundai Santa Cruz if either come to the North American market. Let's be honest. The evolution of the compact truck would be a compact car with a box. Low payload but enough to get around and better aerodynamics to get those impressive mpg numbers. Plus you have the efficiency of building them on the same line as everything else with that platform.

I think the 2nd gen Tacoma really is the 2nd gen Tundra, so to speak. It's nearly the same truck, just no V8 option and slightly less capable payload wise. All of the other measurements are close.

As for Toyota they should stay out of the heavy duty light trucks. Would it really be worth build a few thousand LC70's in North America? Probably not.

I'm talking about the Thailand model that gets cited everywhere as having a mid teens, in USD, starting point. That's why everyone thinks the Hilux starts at a cheap entry price, when in reality that model could never make it here.

Yes, the Hilux model for model does cost more in Europe, depending how you look at it. The options packages don't line up, but if you go tier by tier it is a more expensive truck in GB where I pulled that sheet from.

BTW, ignored. There is no such thing as a meaningful conversation with you. There's no point in talking with someone like you whose incredibly disrespectful who thinks they know everything even after they have dozens of bullshit posts that have been laughed at over and over.

I won't be saving money by purchasing a new truck...I am looking for something that will perform a job better than what I already have. I most certainly could get by with a FWC on my current ride, however me being the stickler I am, I don't want to over load the poor thing. Even with a plain ol' topper, fully loaded towing two 250# dirt bikes on a 900# open trailer...it isn't happy.

The diesel Colorado is very close for the needs. mpg is there...if I am reading it right, it will have nearly a 2000# payload...I personally don't need THAT much torque, but it will yank that camper and the bikes like they aren't even there. And I don't have to buy a 1/2 ton that will get 10-15 mpgs less. So when I look at the Collie, I am comparing more to a 1/2 ton than the upcoming Taco.

Yep, I almost said that, but the wife is yaking in my ear as I try to try to type. ;) :D

Those micro trucks are about as useful as tits on a potato...

Yeah pretty much, I like the 2nd gen...they dropped the ball on engine choices tho'. At the very least it should of gotten the dual VTT-i long ago, like the 4Runner and FJ Cruiser, the 4.7 would of been the cat's meow. If they refuse to give a diesel, and if I am going to get dismal fuel economy anyway with a underpowered V6, give us something that has some fucking kick to it.

    LC70 is my pipedream. ;)

    True.

I just don't trust the new GM for the reasons I listed earlier. I was somewhat interested again in it when those mpg numbers came out, but once I heard about the design of the engine, transmission, and the placement of the urea tank I was quickly scared off again.

Hopefully Ford or Toyota will eventually bring out a small Diesel. Then maybe I would be into it enough in a few years to try one.

Agreed, but every time I go offroad through the public use areas I find hundred of young people, even younger than me, with small suvs camping along the easy parts of the access roads. Give those people the option of a car with a bed and they will be sold. Lots of them are looking for an AWD vehicle the size of a car with a little more space for camping gear or other things and a little less cab space. Hit 30 mpg and price it for under 20K starting and they will sell 30K of them in the first year and that's plenty considering they can be built using a shared platform.

Sweetheart, You are the one who posted about lack of safety futures on Hilux (repeatedly) and I merely posted a link to Official Toyota website giving you a break down of what Safety futures are in Hilux. (agan) So who is posting BS here ?
Your panties are too tight .... maybe if you had ARB bumper instead of plastic one your rear would not get plowed so much

I don't trust the GM either, however it would be under warranty...if it gets too fussy, ditch it before the warranty runs out. Sure I can do a diesel swap into a Tacoma, but spending at the very least $25K on something that doesn't have a warranty doesn't appeal to me...and what is like to get parts for that thing??? Might be able to get the Collie for $35K...seems like money better spent because the warranty and ease of getting parts for it.

The urea tank placement is lame, I would fab up a bumper with swing out spare. I weld like a blind drunk monkey, but I own a grinder or two... ha ha!

Prolly...they'll sell like hotcakes to that crowd. Thought I could get by with a Subaru Wagon, I even rented one for two weeks...I was so annoyed with it by where I couldn't go compared to my Taco, I couldn't wait to get rid of it. So I deal with lack luster fuel economy in trade off for capability.
