A lot of R&D and engineering goes into building new vehicles that allow you to walk away from an accident. Not sure an aftermarket bumper makes it better?

I'm not telling anyone it's better or not. As stated, just my .02. It saved us, my truck from being totalled, as well as still being able to drive it home. The other two cars did as you stated, "crumpled" like a coke can on impact. Which are both totalled. And the airbags also went off in both those cars, hitting them in the face and sending them to the hospital... again just my .02

I respectfully disagree. A lot of R&D goes into making a car that will sell, and sell in the hundreds of thousands (unless you created the Pontiac Aztec). The safest vehicles in the world would not have mass appeal and therefore wouldn't sell. I think it's fairly obvious and well documented that solid front armor protects the passenger compartment. And if you remember the bean counting fiasco ala saddle fuel tanks in Chevys you'll realize that sometimes it's cheaper to manufacture and sell dangerous vehicles if the profits exceed the lawsuits. It's sad but true.

I will always be happy to see peoples cars get damaged who do stupid things. Seems like most posts were not the Tacoma owners fault.
Vehicles can be fixed. People getting harmed is a concern.

Don't be so serious. Some get what they deserve. Nothing wrong with being satisfied with instant karma.

Cars are designed to inccur damage to protect the passengers. The bumper mods are designed to prevent damage. So different engineering goals.

It does,,, More teel means more energy can be absorbed.
Plate bumpers in a lot of cases is what will let you walk away from accident with no scratch. Especially if you have well done bumper... again +1 prop to (Demello ...)

Props for Demello for well built bumper....
    +1 Rep

Being a current accident investigator and having seen hundreds of accidents in my time, I can tell you that a beefier front bumper will reduce damage to the vehicle, however you also run the risk of injury to the occupants by replacing factory equipment. Like somebody previously stated, car companies put a lot of money into research and engineering a safe vehicle for you to drive. If you are involved in a traffic accident the vehicle is designed to crumple around you, therefore dissipating energy before it gets to you. By removing that crumple zone, the energy is transferred more directly to the occupants.

For the record, I have a brute force from bumper. Mainly because I like the idea of being able to sustain more carnage off-road.

There are no crumple zones in the front bumper of our trucks. It is literately (as I'm sure you're aware) just a plastic piece held in place with very thin sheet metal and clips. I took mine off in less than 10 mins. The only crash protection our trucks afford is the aluminum crash bar mounted to the frame. I agree that if you hit someone with a plate bumper then yes it could harm someone else much more than your truck. As far as crumple zones in our trucks they are still intact since the bumper attaches (at least mine does) to where the aluminum crash bar once was. The body still has all the crumple zones during the event of a bad crash. So in reality... it's a trade off. Do more damage to another's vehicle or less damage to yours.

Nope, I haven't had any issues that have made me need spacers!

Damage to which occupants (other car or car with plate bumper?) How ?
To install bumper you have to remove two items
    1. Plastic Bumper
    2. Aluminium bar

    Plastic bumper does nothing
Aluminum bar is 5 MPH bumper which most plate bumper handle.
So curious how woul plate bumper caused damage to occupants.

It just increases the immediate G forces of the impact, all of the force is going strait to through the frame which is a lot more sturdy than the sheet metal body.. But if the crash is big enough the frame will crush along with the factory crumple zones and at that point I think a quality bumper does nothing but help your survivability.

See the post below, that chevy's front end caved in over a foot and the tacoma only maybe an inch or two.. obviously those were not the same exact impacts but you get my point.

Glad there was no frame damage. Have to say I'm a little surprised, I thought there would be minimal frame damage based on the first pictures. Sweet topper/canopy whatever the heck you want to call it, best looking model imo.

Taco clips back corner of flatbed, flatbed spins around on icy road, chevy approaching cant stop and runs into the front of flatbed? This is only how I imagine it happened at least.
