MSRP increases every year industry wide. You can buy a Corolla that stickers for $22.8k now without adding silly options. Equipment levels for convenience and safety features continue to increase and inflation does its thing.

The lengths at which you'll go to vilify the 3rd gen is 2 parts amusing and 1 part sad. Evil Toyota going to 0W-20 so they don't have to pay for 3 whopping oil changes. Never mind the 0W-20 improves fuel economy (owner benefit) and reduces change frequencies even after ToyotaCare runs out (also an owner benefit if you value your time and money). The only reason the Tacoma didn't already have 0W-20 like the rest of the lineup is because the 1GR is so damned old.

Why spend $40000 on a truck and cheap out on the maintenance?

If you look at cost of ownership reports, vehicles that require synthetic will appear to cost more.

    That's all I was saying.

A $3k jump in MSRP is hardly a good comparsion to a $200-500 price increase from one model year to another, especially for a truck that is essentially a retooled 2nd gen.

I never said they were evil for going to 0W-20, I pointed out it saves them money in production and toyota care, a true and obvious statement, Sterdog added the evil music, read for crying out loud. And I find it amusing you get so butt hurt over my comments. Instead of
actually reading them and any constructive argument or feedback which is what mine is, again if you read supposedly all my comments you would see the good ones too about the 3rd gen, you jump on the "oh your just hating on 3rd gen cause you're an ahole mantra". You do realize your in a thread called "the thread FOR bitching about the 3rd GEN " go back to your circle jerk photo threads with the other kool aid drinking idiots in this section or bring something constructive to the discussion.

How is me pointing out that 0W-20 has advantages to the consumer not constructive discussion? It is balancing out your selective information that 0W-20 is only an advantage to the manufacturer and then somehow making the leap that 0W-20 is in some way tied to the MSRP.

Again, the 2nd gen Tacoma had such little equipment that you can't just say it was a $3k jump without looking at the equipment. Once all the equipment information is out we'll be able to truly compare on a site like TrueDelta.

My post doesn't imply any of those things. Again read. I quoted the point the previous poster made that all Toyota vehicles now run the same oil this indeed saves in production costs across the brand so should be cheaper to make. And duh synthetic is better for the consumer I run it as well. And I never implied Toyota did that to make simply more money as if in some master plan, I'm sure it has to do with how the engine was designed again your inferring things from my post that are quite a stretch.

A $3k price increase for bsm, crawl control, projector beams, wireless charging and dual climo, basically tech toys that are sourced from other vehicles within the brand not sure if that warrants the price just shy of 40k the current gen is already overpriced, but then again I bought one too and there is a market

The Tacoma 1GR engine line isn't a flex line that builds engines with multiple oil types. 5W-30 is still an easy oil to get and with the 80k+ engines they were building a year, they were still getting bulk discount. It is very likely a wash between the two when looking at production costs.

Some lines, like the TMMWV 2GR line, built 2GRs for the RAV4 that took 5w-20/5w-30 and 2GRs for the RX350 with 0W-20 at the same time. (My MIL has an RX and my mom has a V6 Rav is the only reason I know this.) They would have additional production costs because 2 different oils on the same line. Not the same situation with the Tacoma.

Toyota sets MSRP based on what the market will bear relative to their sales targets and capacity. They apparently feel that more people are into gadgets and will pay the additional money for the creature comforts. They will set the MSRP close to the equivalent Colorado/Canyon and incentivize as needed to meet their sales targets.

Evil music seemed like an appropriate joke. It wasn't an attempt to intensify the 3rd gen shitstorm.
