2014 shudder issues

Hello C1ph- I just brought my 2013 TRD Off-Road home after being at the dealer for a week dealing with this. You've probably resolved the situation by now, but if not, let me know and I'll let you know what's been done. Good luck!

 

Wow. I forgot about this thread. No the issue is not resolved. My shudder when accelerating has been with some supposed TSB. But the trans shaking at around 35-50 MPG has not.

My 2014 Tacoma TRD was into Thompson Toyota last month, March 2015, for the latest TSB refering to the driveline shutter. It seemed to be better when I left the dealer, but has returned again about the same as it was before.
My 2012 Tacoma TRD did the same thing, plus it had several other problems.

Just got my 2013 TRD back from my Seattle area dealer yesterday for the "Shudder". Originally it shuddered upon acceleration, took it in for a TSB repair, they installed new leaf springs, steering dampener, engine mounts, etc. Got it back, and it then shuddered upon deceleration! Took it back in, they put another new, different set of springs. And it feels pretty good. The technician said none of the TSB's will ever make it go away completely, just mitigate the situation. So far it feels 95% fixed. Still a very slight shudder if accelerating briskly, and a bit of rumble when it hits 25 mph when slowing down, but other than that, not too bad. He said that's the best that can be done with regard to a fix. Only recourse now would be to take it up with the Regional Toyota Office. I'm pondering that. Good luck with yours.

 

There is NO EXCUSE for any kind of shudder/vibration of any sort to occur while operating the vehicle. It is such a shame to see the once well respected Toyota Corp produce crap like this. I'm not a Nissan fan, but just for shits and giggles, stop by a dealership and test drive one of their trucks. Yes they are low-budget, but not a single vibration to be found. If they can do it, and Toyota has been doing it for years, why has their product gone to crap?

The most frustrating part of the whole situation is the way the dealers and factory reps act like there is no problem, playing games to try to save face. It's pitiful.

I went to the four banger/5-speed combo to rid myself of the frustrations, but had a recall after 2000 miles for bad valve springs. Since I don't put many miles on the truck, I waited for a while so the local tech's would have a little experience performing this repair. I was told by the service dept that they have done it several times and bring it in, no problem. Once I brought it in, they said I said "seat springs" and had to order the engine springs, Total horseshit, they referred to the recall number, yet tried to blame it on me. Typical.

btw, their loaner Rav4 got some great air and could perform several stunts that previous rentals have not been capable of.

 

Ugh. I'm just now reading this after two failed visits to different dealers. The second one said he'd never heard of such a thing but was more interested than the first. My truck shudders badly when in 1st gear, very slowly accelerating or going up a hill and turning slowly, also on reverse. So embarassing! I look like I can't drive standard and it's the only thing I've driven for 35 years! This is my 2nd Tacoma (previous lasted 20 years) and it feels like a piece of crap in comparison--so plastic-y.

Anyway, I need to find out how to re-create this scenario at the dealer and which TSB to show them. The ones I've seen say its for a shudder at high speed. Is that the same one?

Also, I am interested in the Lemon Law possibility. I bought my truck in New Mexico and I'm in Texas. I already replaced the squeaky clutch pedal per their recall.

You guys seem to know enough about mechanics to at least talk to them credibly--but I'm stuck at just trying to re-create the problem (which, of course, I haven't been able to do, which is crazy since it does it so often in my daily life). Also, being a woman, those dealer mechanics don't take me seriously.
