So I had a little fender bender today in the parking lot, my paint is a little scuffed up and before I go to a shop to get it fixed I want to know if there's anything I can do. Can I just buff it up with some black wax or something?

Looks like its through the paint. But you can always try some scratch remover from auto zone. It can get some of the other persons paint off if that's the white I am seeing.

Well he had a grey car, so it's hard to tell whether that's his paint or just the under layer of my paint. Guess I'll see when I try to get it off tomorrow.

Yes you can remove it, but you will need an random orbital polisher like a Porter Cable. Use a foam pad and some medium cutting polish. I have removed scuff marks like off successfully using the method I just mentioned.

I've been doing some reading about this sort of thing- and was advised that sometimes it's more productive to aim for "better" as opposed to "like new". The reason being- there's only so much a guy can do at home. And attempting a complete fix might take that paint down to the metal before the deep part of the scratch is addressed. Alternately, go with a less is more approach- you can probably clean that up considerably with something like Meg's Ultimate Compound. And be left with a scratch small enough that it might not be very noticeable. In any case, start with the least aggressive product first.

EDIT: just realized this was a few days old. OP did you attempt a fix on your own? Im curious to know if you had any success. I'm researching this in prep for attacking a similar defect on my moms Honda.
