What's the source for the trim? And how much is needed?

Edge trim is from McMaster Carr. 2 part #'s, one for sheet metal and one for thicker plastic flares: 8507K11 and 8507K65. They come in 10 , 25, 50 foot lengths. I would get enough so if you mess up you have extra to redo some areas. Same with the plastic flare clips, I believe rka has the pn for those two types from Amazon. I have to redo a small section on my truck.

I personally won't chop anyone's fenders because I'll probably mess it up. It's not something that can be done perfectly and probably better if the owners cut their own. lol. I can definitely show you exactly how I did mine. And just for the record, mine are not perfect. They might look good in pictures but there's definitely areas that could have been done better. I can lend a hand if anyone needs help though.

 

Fender flare clip PN. I ordered these from Amazon and they fit. There's more of one color on each fender, these chinese clips are opposite color coded to what is really on the truck.

Yes, those blue and red clips work. I ordered those part numbers already. Those clips are definitely needed if you want to put your flares back on.

 

Is a jig saw the best tool for cutting the fenders? I was wondering if a sawzal or dremmel with a metal cutting blade would be more precise...

 

I think I'd use a jigsaw for metal and Dremel the plastic.

 

I tried about a half inch with a dremel and just couldn't do it. lol You might be better with that tool than me so it might be better, but I couldn't use it. I couldn't make the line as straight with it as I could with the jig saw. My lines are straight, it was applying the edge trim that I messed up a little spot. You'll see when you start dremelling it. And you'll take hours and hours with the dremel.

 

Front of the rear fender. Nutted and bolted since there is no fender support there.



The rear fender support can still be used. I just bent the support back a little so the holes lined up and the stock bolt could still be used.

Don't really need the front fender support bar since the area is so small after trimming.

My plan was to Dremel the plastic but if u say jigsaw better then that's what I'm using. Btw it looks great! That's exactly what I want to achieve. Now how are u attaching the required mudflaps??

Yeah man, the jig saw kind of wants to cut in a straight line on it's own. I know if I kept using the dremel, the cutting wheel would have skipped and bounced and dinged the flare. lol. I did use the dremel to start every cut so I could get the jigsaw blade in there.

I def wanna help you guys out, I just don't feel comfortable cutting someone else's nice truck.

I cut some "L" angle aluminum I found at work and plan to use those as mounting brackets. You won't see any of the bolts attaching the flaps if they are attached to the sheet metal under the plastic flare. Well, that's what I'm picturing in my head. I want to get the 315's mounted before I drill any holes for the flaps so I can make sure they cover the entire width of the new tire.

If you're more comfortable with a Dremel, I would try that first.

 

The front fender flares were bugging me because after trimming I had only the plastic clips holding them on. I made some small aluminum brackets to bolt the flare in the front of the front fender.




It's a lot more solid now






Painted all the hardware black so it's not too noticable






The front and rear flares are all now bolted to the fender instead of just having the plastic clips holding them on.
