Undercover Flex woth KBVOODOO bed cap system

Anyone tried this befire?

Finally getting around to putting my undercover flex tonneau back on after throwing the KBVoodoo bed cap system on, and running into issues.

The tonneau now sits about a half inch too high, won't take a good seal to the truck, and looks rediculous...

I'm getting frustrated with this damn thing...

 

I will get some tomorrow in the light. I think I found a way to get it to kinda work, but I would have to have someone fab me some new clamps, because the ones that came with the tonneau just won't work, unless u am missing something.

Or I could lower the bed rail some, but would have to figure out how to do that and keep the bolts for the cap.

Only problem in lowering the bed tie down rails is you have a bunch of exposed fender where the rail bolts over it.

What if you source yourself some new thicker rubber or gasket type material to bridge the gap from the KB Voodoo bed rails to the tonneau?

EDIT: Just a note, I have the KB Voodoo bed rails, but I run them with a Bestop which mounts flat with adjustable tie down rail clamps so I hadn't run into this specific issue but did encounter some problems with the tailgate portion. since we lose the 1/2" of height going to a flat rail it poses some issues with bed covers.

 

The issue is that the tonneau should be flat against the bed rails. I would rather find a way to bring it down, than compensate for the gap

 

Just looking at the Tacoma undercover flex manual, what if you drill a new hole lower in the rail brackets and tap them for the proper threads? Assuming I'm looking at the right bracket picture.

Looks like that would drop it down to the right height. But then again from what I see you'd have to notch the tonneau at the rail mounts.

The flex has its own rails that clamp to the stock bed rails. In order to keep the correct width, I have to use the bed rails, but they are too high with the lower bed caps. Not sure what I'm going to do yet. I can lower them so the gasket on the flex rails are perfect height, but the clamps won't allow me to install it that way

What did you use as a shim for your bedbars? I just got my relentless fab bed bars but haven't gotten around to installing them yet and I'm running the kbvoodoo caps as well.

As far as the gap, I have the bakflip g2 cover and have the gap problem as well. I don't mind the look too much so I was just going to grab some 1" wide weather strip or something to cover up the gap and help keep water out.

Okay, here are some pictures...


This is how I would like it to sit...

 

When the tonneau folds closed, it clicks in underneath the inner lip of the tonneau rails, so the width has to remain the same. They can move in or out probably a few mm, but no big moves otherwise it won't fit

 

That was my thought. If I set the clamp as far open as possible, I can get the rail down almost to where I want it, but not quite far enough. The bolt isn't long enough, and the channel the bolt can move on isn't long enough

 

My guess, and from what I could see in the pics, even if you managed new mounts with further adjustability, your tonneau rails would be hitting the clamp piece that fits in the Tacoma bed rail preventing things from sitting flush like you want. At least that's what it already looks like in the close up pic of the rail clamp pieces.

That's why I'm my previous post I mentioned you might have to notch the actual tonneau rails where they make contact with those clamp pieces. But that's just what I see from your pics and the Undercover manual.


For illustration purposes:
Red arrow is problem portion and blue arrow is where red arrow piece is going to make contact preventing from going lower. That's if this manual I'm looking at for the Flex tonneau is correct to your model.

I can't see the picture, but I understand what you mean. The problem with notching into the rails is that I would cut into the drain channel, causing water to fall into the bed instead of into the channel and down through the drain tubes.

I will have to look into notching the rails to see how much I could actually notch out before it gets into the channel, but it's a possibility

 

Got my pic fixed. Dang that's a bummer of it doubling as the drainage system. Don't know how to get around that.
