Yea. That's about as useful as the folks that black out their plates before posting pics. o_O

Clearwater, what is an early adopter fee? Never heard of it. Is that another term for msrp +dealer markup(due to be a hot selling item).

Yeah. I just made that up. Kinda like being 'bleeding edge' in technology adaptation.

If they do try it, hopefully folks won't allow themselves to be abused in this way.

Holy cow, a huge size of a dream truck blocked 3.5yrs of offroading because it wasn't small enough? What exactly are you chasing for offroad?

The Raptor hasn't blocked all off roading. For that matter, I live at the end of a poorly maintained 2.5 mile long dirt "road". There's a spot where I can get all 4 wheels off the ground; that's fun, but not entirely safe (requires 65 MPH+). A lot of the roads and trails on state forest land around here go for many miles. There's an old washed out bridge that any stock JK can cross, but my truck is too wide to get through the creek without banging it up. Trails here in northern PA are generally narrow and somewhat mountainous; I see mostly Jeeps, Tacomas, some FJ's, and similar. My brother's and mine are the only two Raptor's I've ever seen off road around here.

My wife thinks I'm nuts to consider trading a Raptor for a Tacoma, but it's more than just off road nimbleness. We have a baby now and my wife isn't working as much, so money is a much larger factor than it was in 2012. I have a company car, so the piss poor fuel mileage of the Raptor isn't a huge deal, but if I was to leave my current job driving the Raptor everyday would get very expensive quickly. I feel like having a new, paid off, off road capable truck in the garage that gets substantially better than 13.3 MPG is a good decision. Beyond just the MPG's, the tires and Raptor specific parts are much more expensive than the Tacoma.

Congrats on the baby... life before rusted steel will remain to bring important decisions. :)
2.5 miles of poorly dirt road isn't really an need for a Raptor though.... correct me if I'm wrong?

I see what you're saying, but if just crossing a bridge is more important to you to prove something... the baby comes first. Your wife working should never come into play considering providing for the family. :)

Well, it looks to me like that will be a topnotch offroad truck. A set of chains on that and you'll be through snowdrifts galore as well as this that and the other.

So glad they are offering a TRD Offroad DCLB this year. Still sucks there is now manual though.

No, I don't NEED a Raptor. Any 4wd or AWD vehicle will get me where I need to go year round. In 2012, I wanted a truck and I found a dealer who was willing to order a Raptor for invoice so I splurged. I think I paid $44,100 which wasn't that much more than a decently equipped F150. However, my sensible side recently took over when my local Toyota dealer said he would give me at least $40k in trade for my Raptor toward a 2016 Tacoma. I still owe about $5k on the Raptor, I told the dealer if he could pay off my Raptor and give me a 2016 Tacoma for the remaining equity in the Raptor, I would do it. I still think I want to see a 2016 in person before I give him a deposit and place an order.

Not being able to get around the washed out bridge isn't a huge thing, but there was a cool lake out there that we used to like to go to because it was miles away from civilization.

Paying MSRP is a foolish thing to do . I would never pay MSRP for any vehicle

only reason I said that was because Toyota has an embargo on info until aug-17, just thought to have some courtesy and leave the dealer info out incase Toyota corporate has issues until its lifted.

OK - So as for price, we don't have one yet. Dealer said that pricing is not out for a few weeks. The dealer said that "for the first year, we will sell at MSRP only". No mention of "other" fees. But it's not a big deal. If the dealer pulls any crap, I will just take back my $1000 deposit. The contract I signed says "fully refundable". And at the time I pick it up, I will challenge the dealer on price because I have another local dealer (mountain states Toyota) that will give "internet" pricing on new car orders. So we'll see.

As for JBL........well, I don't really care all that much about audio. I'm 47 and listen mostly to podcasts, not music. But I thought.......what the hell, since it's the only Magnetic Grey that I could secure, the only one that have on pre-allocation.

As for the sidesteps/bars.......bah, we'll see how they look. I'm not a big fan of them, and they normally get in the way when wheelin' offroad. Again, this was the only Magnetic Gray I could reserve, so.....what the hell, throw 'em on.

As for serial number/VIN number. What? Even if there was displayed, so what. You can walk up to anyone's car and look through their windshield to see their VIN. Not worried about that.

As for "protecting the dealer" since they may be showing me info before Toyota wants them to......... So what. I'm actually not a big fan of Stevinson Toyota. They are like most scum sucking dealerships - full of hot air, sales people that know less about Tacomas than I do (and I've never owned one), and just generally cheesy. "Yes, we like to make sales Alan. But our main concern is that you are happy with your perfect vehicle". LOLOLOLOLOL - yep, the dealership cares more about my happiness than their profit. That's a good one.

Anyway, I could care less about dealerships, but I'm really psyched about a new Tacoma. I've been into offroading for 15 years. I'm selling my over-built JK now because I'm pretty much done with all the hard core buggy type riding. I just want a nice truck that I can still take all over Colorado back roads to do some fishing and see some of our gorgeous mountains. But also one that I can drive to work, and pull my ATVs with. The Tacoma was seriously the ONLY choice of something that has a nice ride, but small enough to wheel most of trails in CO. Perfect fit here.

On a side note, this is what I did today (pic). Took the ATV up to Argentine Pass and Maclellan mountain. :)

Nice! Work sent me to the Bolder/Golden area a few years ago. I was only there for a couple of weeks, but I have thought about that place every day since. It was the first and only time I've seen the Rocky Mountains. I took my rental Hyundai Elantra off the beaten path a bit, but I was nervous to get too nuts. I look forward to getting back there someday.

What's the difference between a rental Hyundai Elantra and a Tacoma? The rental Hyundai will go anywhere.

Haha! I've actually used that joke on my boss, although slightly different.

Me to boss "Boss, what the difference between a 4wd truck and my company car? My company car will go anywhere"

It's not a slight against the Tacoma, it's just joking that a company/rental car is sometimes treated like a rented mule.
