The 2015 mpg between 2wheel and 4 wheel were 19 and 18 mpg combined by the EPA. I will be getting a 4wheel model because I plan to drive trails in the desert and mountains a few times a month.

and I know someday I will wake up and find 12 inches of snow on the ground where we live in Glendale....

It's hard to sell a 2x4 private party. If you plan on running the truck till the wheels fall off get whatever you want

I would recommend 4x4 but I also live in Maine where we get close to 200 inches of snow a year. 4x4 is a must for me

Have had Toyota compact trucks for 35 years and live in Maine. For the last 18 years, we have lived on a dirt road that is snow covered all winter and traverses a mountain. We have 4 wd. For the first 17 years, we lived in town and traveled paved roads. 2 wd with weight in back and snow tires were fine. Unless you regular travel off paved roads, you don't need 4 wd. The LSD on all newer toyota trucks work so well, many tines I drive in and out our road over snow in 2 wd. If I move back into town, I will go back to 2 wd. I am sure Maine is more demanding then your travels.

Don't listen to all the macho 4x4 Bulls--t. These dude's that think they are getting all the money back when they sell their truck don't understand the opportunity cost of money.

Get what you need. No more no less.

You do have a bigger market to sell to though. More people want 4x4 than 2x4, whether they need it or not.

Personally, I need it for what I do. I hunt snow covered roads every year, ice fish, explore. 2x4 would not work for my needs.

If you don't need 4x4, it doesn't make sense to buy just for resale. But it definitely makes it easier to sell something with 4 wheel drive.

I disagree, it depends on your region where you live. I see prerunner sold like hot cakes in the metro area and rural area to private party.

Where I live it is hard to sell a 2x4. Your right every region is different. Most dealers around here don't stock many 2 wheel drive pickups. The only people buying them are companies

Many don't live here in the South where used 4x4s sit on lots and 2WD sell faster. The only reason to get a 4x4 here is to go mudding. I would not buy a used 4x4 that has lived in the mud. 2wd trucks mile for mile are in better shape i do think a locker is a good idea if one launches a boat. But even then many cars and trucks can launch a boat

Even when it comes to AWD vehicles, they don't sell as much..In the north 2WD is worthless. Depends on where one lives. I have zero use for 4WD

Exactly. There are times when driving on bare roads in cold weather where you can't use 4wd yet hit a patch of snow while taking a corner and the 4 wd suddenly becomes an albatross. It's those times that awd is most benifitial and 2wd actually handles better with the better weight distribution. The tacoma 4 wd system is not made for good on road performance.

When I spent time in Branson Missouri in the winter too many vehicles that were in the ditches on the side of the road were AWD andcfour wheel drives. Too many People think four wheel drive is an excuse to drive on the snow the same way they drive on dry roads

I had a four wheel drive out west but I actually took it off road and to travel in the snow when going skiing at Brian Head. Many times chains were required anyway.

. Since moving east to the southeast, there's no need for 4 wheel drive unless one likes playing in the mud. And I believe it's a macho thing for many young guys who will never use the extra drive.

. I don't think mud is good for wheel bearings and the undercarriage. 2WD does fine on dirt trails in the wild.

plus I would not buy a used four wheel drive that has been off roaded. That's where the resale can be hurt. I don't know if Toyota warranties trucks that go off road. But I wouldn't buy one used especially one that has been modified to go off road.

you can use a 4 wd truck in the south in the deer and turkey hunting woods without playing in the mud

it is useful and many people use it

4wd is worth the security as you have explained the use. Even traveling over dirt roads you can easily slide into a ditch that only 4 we can get you out of. AAA will not come and pull you out of many unsaved ares. Get the 4 wd !

If you want a 15 4x4 come south Most left over DCs are 4WDs

I have never driven a dirt road I needed a 4WD for. Grew up in the north with tqo wheel RWD vehicles and rarely was on snow deep enough to get stuck. That said If I lived in snow country I would buy the AWD/4WD because resale is much faster.

Here in the south, used 4WDs are not as fast selling as 2WDs, People don't want the extra maintenance or insurance as they can traverse dirt roads easily with 2WD Especially with a Locker.

Northerners come down o buy 4X4s as they are less expensive here due to demand. Just like a 2WD up north would be a great buy for someone from the South
