Hello! I'm new to the Tacoma World.
Just bought my very first brand new tacoma. TRD SPORT double cab.
I hope this truck holds up like the last old used one i owned. 1986 with the 4 banger. 324,000 miles. Drove it to the junk yard, frame was almost rusted through. Engine and tranny were still great!. Finally down sizing from F-250 4x4. Just don't need the size or 12 mpg.
DO any of you own a 2015? and if so whats the best mpg i can expect from this truck? I already know it will beat 12 mpg all day long.

I too am old and retired....darn old. My wife and I are on our sixth Toyota. Put about 100,000+ miles on each the first five....four bangers and v-sixes. Better than twelve miles per gallon but never really checked it out. It ain't a Corolla. You are going to love your new TRD Sport. Just drive the darn thing and enjoy it. It will make you feel young again...sort of.

We just traded a 2011 TRD Sport for a 2015 TRD Off Road. Oh, I'm 72. I may have grown old, but I never did grow up.

Sorry to say our other truck is a 2012 Ram Hemi with a 3.92 rear end and I get 16-18 mpg with it. Certainly the Tacoma has to do better than that.

Sad but true. I'd say my wife's Tacoma (She lets me drive it once in a while.) gets 17-19 mpg. max (I did actually measure it when we first got the 2011 V-6.)....and she's a 72-year-old retired kindergarten teacher and about half her miles are city, half open highway.

I have a 2015 DCSB base V6 with just over 6000 miles. It has no lift, but is riding on 265/75/16 Duratracs. I work 5 days a week and drive about 40 miles a day round trip. I would say i drive 50/50 highway and city. If I am careful to keep the RPM's below 2000, then I will get around 18.5 MPG. If i were to drive normally and not worry about RPM's, then it drops into the 17's.

Oldandretired, here again. The wife and i are really impressed so far with how nice this truck drives and rides compared to the old truck. And it also rides better that our 2011 Focus.
Focus is the commuter car. Starting to look for seat cover to protect new seats and some all weather floor mats. They sure have a lot of hiding spaces for extra gear in this truck.
Looking forward to having some time for a long trip. Any suggestions on covers and floor mats?

Welcome to TW  If you are a V6, like mine, you should be able to average 19 or maybe a tad better. All depends on driving habits, keep the RPM at 2K or lower when possible to maximize it. Click on my fuelly below to see my record.

Thanks, I will give it a try. I'm a pretty
    conservative driver.

I find if I drive conservatively, I can get 21-23 MPG out of my double cab long bed TRD sport on the highway. If I am keeping up with faster traffic and passing at all, it's 15. Pretty much once you start creeping over 65-70 MPH all bets are off. My 23 MPG was driving through Virginia going a consistent 55 MPH.

Back and forth to work and stores and whatnot gets me about 18.5-19.5 consistently and I don't really have a light foot in stop and go traffic like that. I say stop and go, but it's still fairly rural here so it's nothing compared to NYC or Boston stop and go. I'm sure I would do dramatically worse in a true city situation.

Subtract about 2.5 MPG across the board for winter driving if you live in a place where that matters. I attribute the loss to winter gas, knobby soft snow tires with bad rolling resistance, cold temps where I tend to let it warm up some days, and frequent use of 4 HI.

For all weather mats...I went with the Toyota OEM all weathers. I had them in the past and they worked for me. No seat covers for me....Scotchguard is your friend. On my Ram, I have some inexpensive easy on, easy off covers for when I am hunting, camping or hauling my two golden retrievers.

    Welcome to TW!

I have a 2015 DCLB and with larger, all-terrain tires I get about 17mpg with mixed city, highway and rural road driving. It's not the best but considering my Volvo C30 Polestar got 20mpg it's not that much worse for me.
