If it's a VM Shitori then it's already a failure. Like I said before, a diesel that isn't from Germany, USA, Japan, or Sweden isn't worth owning in anything. Now, it's time for me to go mow my field with my sweet Jinma tractor that's far superior to Yanmar, Kubota, and JD.

True, and I kinda agree with ya...I didn't care for the bailout....however every single one of us that puts fuel in our vehicles is a commie... :D Just look how heavily subsidized the oil industry is, not to mention the price of war both financially and lives lost to secure those resources. Granted if we didn't do it...someone else will. We hardly live in a "free market" anymore.

Toyota got a little help from the Japanese government as well...

I am not going to loose any sleep over it. :D I dunno, I am kinda leaning towards a diesel Collie....the no manual trans might be a deal killer though.

One word for oil trouble, Keystone XL. No faking Al Queada involvement to get our oil at a fair price.

Okay, before we all get wrist slapped for politics let's just get back to the haters versus the fanboys.

    Ha ha!

I dunno, it is a tough choice. I like both the Tacoma and the Colorado, but there are some aspects of both I don't care for. Even though I don't care for the Taco's grill, I could look beyond that. What really pisses me off that they no longer offer the manual trans in the dirt bag SR model, have to buy a Sport or OR to get it, that comes with a bunch a bullshit I don't want or need.

Half tempted to give the Colorado a chance on the diesel mpg/torque specs alone. Yeah, it most likely will be a little more expensive, but just think of the range you could get of it for a back country explorer...and not having to dick around with Jerry Cans or fitting an auxiliary fuel tank.

Funny..if the Taco came with a diesel...it would be a no brainer...if the Colorado came with a manual trans, that would be a no brainer as well. No matter which manufacture...they always miss a mark or two.

Think about trying to climb out of a difficult spot when you run out of DEF. Diesel will be good offroad, but has it's own disadvantages. Can you imagine it going into a filter regeneration cycle on a hill climb

I will bet that any long-time Tacoma owner who jumps ship for a twin will eventually regret their decision and come back to the Tacoma or wish that they could, if they aren't upside down in Colomino payments. Happens all the time with those who switch to the Frontier. They regret it If anyone does jump ship, please do a full review of their new, midsize truck.

    true true...gaaad damnit! ;)

I honestly really like what I have now...no idea why I am looking at new trucks. The $35K not buying a new truck, keeps both of the vehicles I have running for a long time...and buys another of the same vintage as a spare to the other two.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Yeah but that was 1gen and 2gen trucks... incoming 2.5 gen is nothing like 2gen, and definitely nothing like 1gen.
    So go back to what 2gen ? 1gen ? Land Cruiser ?
BTW I did not like what Toyota did going from 1gen to 2gen but still, a land cruiser engine and transmission was hard to be passed on.
IMHO 2.5 gen has nothing to offer old time Toyota truck owners, neither is build tough, nor is designed tough. Inside with round vents look more like KIA soul, outside with big grill looks like face smashed Ford Taurus...

No, they'll trade in their twin, at a loss, and get at new Tacoma. Then again, it might have to be Gen 2 Taco, depending on how much their trade-in fetches them.

I have cruising the classifieds...have been finding a few clean pre-tacomas out there...some with a 3.4 swapped in. And there are coil over conversions out there.

    http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/s...s-86-to-95-toyota-ifs-kit-long-travel-system/

That might be the hawt set up...fully boxed frame, coilover suspension, and a bomb proof 3.4.....that or do a SAS.

Its still the same a428 with updated emissions components with a updated head design. They only thing GM did was help with the emissions design to make sure it meets us requirements. Jeep stopped using that 2.8 in 2006 due to not being able to meet us standards. And yes I know its VM Motori. Iphone fail on the auto correct.

OK, I'm prepared for the flaming from fanboys. I purchased my '15 Colorado Crew Cab Long Bed Z71 a little over 2 months ago. I spent MONTHS researching all trucks. I've test driven Tacomas, Tundras, Silverados, and the Colorado. I have long been a Taco fan, and was about to buy one until I test drove a Colorado.

I own a 2001 Audi S4 (bi-turbo V6 AWD 6-speed) lowered, highly modified with larger turbos, new motor/trans, completely redone suspension, etc. It's starting to show its age, and I wanted a daily driver that had utility. I needed a truck, but full size trucks are ridiculously large. So I looked at the Tacos and the Frontiers (Nissan isn't getting my money anytime soon). Then my buddy told me about the new Colorado. So I looked at them. I went to the dealership to test drive one, and from my research, knew more than the sales guy did (he was fired before I bought my truck). I was thoroughly impressed with everything from the exterior looks to the well-appointed interior. The V6 has plenty of power and good responsiveness. I was sold (nearly). I wanted one last turn with a Tacoma.

The Taco, while amazing in its own right, just didn't cut it for me. A fully loaded TRD Pro is above 39k MSRP. I got my Colorado for 36k, fully loaded. The Tacoma is outdated, pure and simple. They've had no need to update, and I understand that. But I wanted new! This is my first brand new vehicle purchase, so I was going to make sure I got everything I wanted. The aftermarket world for the Tacos is phenomenal, but I'm excited to see how the Colorado aftermarket will grow.

Since I've purchased the 'rado, I've had a blast with it. It's towed 6k lbs just fine, with a fully loaded bed, when my gf and I moved. It's been off road, in the mud, dirt and gravel. I live in Northern Nevada, and we have some amazing dirt tracks to play on up in the mountains. (I've included a picture of my first weekend of ownership (read: less than 1 full day of ownership before I did this) so you can see I truly use a truck as a truck).

I honestly hated GM before, just due to their reliability (last gen 'rado was absolute garbage, cars were terrible) and dealer issues. I got a great dealership, thankfully. My salesman and my current maintenance manager are excellent people to deal with. My gf has a '14 Chevy Sonic, and I've also had a few new Chevys as rentals, and I'm thoroughly impressed with the current quality and build on them (especially compared to my friend's '08 Canyon and my old '03 Impala). GM has really stepped up since their bailout, which yes was a shitty deal, but I believe they've learned from it.

I've never been a particular fanboy of any brand other than Audi, and I set aside my bias when looking for a new vehicle. Even after driving the Colorado, I was VERY close to sticking with a Tacoma. I've had nothing but pleasure since I made this purchase, and I'm not looking back. I've had a couple minor issues, but nothing I'm not prepared to deal with as it's a brand new truck in a new production line.

The Tacoma is a very capable truck, but the Colorado isn't something to dismiss out of hand just because of your fanboyism/loyalty. I have a feeling it's going to be around for a while, and will continue to grow in sales and stature in the mid-size world. Will it ever surpass the Tacoma? I highly doubt it, due to their long time running and historic reliability. Toyota is pretty well secure in its position, but hopefully the competition will light a fire under Toyota's ass to continue updating and pushing their chassis, to make better and better trucks.

TL : DR - I love Toyota and their Tacomas, but I went with the Colorado as I felt it fit my desires better. Chevy1.jpg

You voided your offroad argument when your picture shows the front air dam still on your Z71. Any truck, or car, can drive on gravel. If you wheeled that truck that air dam would of been gone long ago.

BTW welcome to the forum. Strange you show up right in this conversation... setup a membership just to talk about how awesome the Colorado is?

That airdam is long gone, but that was 12 hours after I got it from the dealership. Hadn't put a wrench to it yet. I actually had her in a 8" mudrut that I thought I was stuck in, which is why the mud is so thick on the rim. The locking rear diff was a lifesaver there.

I've been lurking on this site for months, like I said, doing my research. I just wanted to point out to all the fanboys that just cause something is new and you love the old doesn't mean it doesn't deserve attention. I still love Tacomas, but right now they don't truly compete for Chevy's targeted audience, which is car/crossover/suv owners who want something new. The 3rd gen is a good step forward, and it's in part because of Chevy's competition. I like competition and constant growth in any vehicle.

I'm glad the Tacoma isn't competing for the car/crossover/suv crowd :notsure:

If I needed a car/crossover/suv I would buy one instead of a truck...

Usually people stop lurking once they've made their purchase, unless they aren't happy with their decisions.

The new 3rd gen still has the underpinnings that worked so well on the 2nd gen with a more fuel efficient engine and better rear end ratio. I really wanted to like the new Diesel Colorado for Offroad use but, truth be told and like you said, it's tuned towards the same people who would be looking at a Toureg.

Well this is a great philosphy. Beacuse ... at some point -- and it may be a long time from now -- your 2007 Gen 2 is going to die or (God forbid) get wrecked. At that time, you're going to go looking for a replacement. And given that this could be 7-10 years out from now, there just may be a Gen 4 Tacoma on the dealer lots. But of course, you won't buy one of those. You won't be interested in the Gen 4 because it will probably have even more creature comforts, options, and will likely get better MPGs, and be at a higher price. So, if you want another Tacoma, you'll go looking for a low mileage Gen 2, again, that maybe some grandma owned (of course it will be a 5 lug, 4 cyl auto) or a Gen 2 that was kept in a bubble by some OCD-type dude. But, odds are, you'll end up with a used Gen 3, at which point you'll start bragging about how manly and cool a Gen 3 is compared to a Gen 4. Then, you'll look back on this post and realize how silly you were. Better bookmark it.

Sorry, I meant car/crossover/suv folks who are looking into moving into a truck (they generally don't want/need a fullsize, and there's not much in choice for midsize). ;) I'm just overall happy to see the midsize segment get a kick to move forward, instead of brands letting them die, and Nissan and Toyota sticking with the same old same old. I'm excited to see where it goes.
