Here's a weird question not sure if any of you have come across or not.

Recently purchased a 2015 Tacoma, love it so far had a few hiccups but no worries all cleared away now. Anyways I have my phone paired to my truck as soon as I get in anyways yesterday my wife was driving the truck and I was the passenger and noticed that her was phone and when she received text messages they showed up on the display unit. Didn't even know this was a thing, as the countless times I have been driving and received a text my phone beeps but it doesn't come up on the display unit.

It's weird thought maybe it had to do with the fact that I keep my phone password protected but then again so does my wife. She has the same phone as I do (HTC one M8) on the same carrier so I don't understand why her phone would do this and my phone wouldn't. Has anyone else had this happen and what is the solution. It's not a huge deal just irritates me that I can't figure it out.... I have tried disconnecting my phone from stereo (forget this device) and reconnecting but still no dice.

I have also tried manually searching the messages through the apps screen and when I get to that option it says no messages available. Maybe its a function on my phone I have locked??

Kind of the same issue here. Wife and I both have Iphones. When mine is paired I can receive text messages that show up on the display and are also spoken to you. Just got the truck one day, going down the road, low and behold, speaking text message WTF! pretty cool feature I was not expecting. Now when the Mrs has her phone paired and a text comes in it notifies you but that's it. You cant do anything because it states the vehicle is moving. Weird. Maybe someone has the answer for us.

On your iphone, go to settings then bluetooth. from there, when you see toyota tacoma press on the "i" in the circle to the right of that. once the next page comes up, turn on 'show notifications'.

once that it is taken care of, on your radio...go to the phone screen and click on the letter in the top right of the screen. this should initiate messaging for you.

Using a droid, uninstall the phone from the radio then re-pair it. when it pairs, you will get a pop-up on the phone asking you if you want to rcv messages. say yes.

then follow the second paragraph above.

    good luck!

I have a Razor and when I first got it last December, it worked just great getting SMS on the radio. I thought, how cool is that. Then, Motorola does an upgrade. Low and behold, the feature goes to the dark side. It didn't matter what I did. Forward six months, Motorola does another upgrade. Low and behold, the other day my wife texts me and it comes over the radio (just like before). I guess it has something to do with the phone/carrier because I haven't done a thing to my phone other than the upgrades, nor have I done anything to upgrade the radio. I guess it'll work until it doesn't work.

I think you'll find that Entune does not like MMS messages. My Nexus 5 works great for SMS, but as soon as there is a MMS on the phone Entune will no longer download or connect to any messages. Clearing the MMS messages from the phone (or wiping all threads) restores full functionality and connectivity until the next multi-address or picture message comes in. Good luck.

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
I had a Nokia Limina 928 Windows phone and it read messages in my '07 Camry and my '14 Tacoma. I recently got an iPhone 6s and it does not on either. I turned on notifications for the Tacoma as suggested, we'll see what happens. I was able to find the Bluetooth link for the truck but the option isn't showing up for the Camry.

For my 2013 using a Iphone 5SE I do not get the option to turn on notifications when connected with Bluetooth. My wife's Iphone 6+ works with her Toyota Prius using the Toyota app connection.

I've had some sporadic issues with my Note 4 over the past year. Every time it's been a setting on the phone.

One of the bigger issues I ran into is that with power saving mode on it would stay connected to the radio, but wouldn't transmit anything (Texts, Calls, Spotify, nothing)...

When I had an HTC One my 15 basic Entune touchscreen would alert me to texts and emails and show/read them. Upgraded to a Nexus 6 and I still get texts, but the email went bye-bye. Never could figure it out.
