Testing 1..2..3..Is this thing on?

Hello future Tacoma e-friends. I didn't see too many trolls creeping around so I figured this was as safe a place as any on the internet. Just replaced my 2000 Tacoma 4x2 with a 2015 TRD Off Road (that came automatically with the tow package - try finding one in California that doesn't). I'm not a mechanic (ssshhh..computer programmer), and while I love and STILL miss my old gal, I needed to reincarnate her. Got the off road for snow and camping trips (and because I could now afford it) as my last gal had a hard time staying on the road when conditions were treacherous. My new truck is awesome but I feel like I'm driving the Enterprise with all of the buttons and noises it makes. My 70 year old Dad had to show me how to use the 4WD and forced me to go off roading for what I'm pretty sure was more his benefit than mine. So I figured I'd sign up here because I'll probably have a lot of dumb questions...like...what is that noise it makes when I turn the key but haven't started it yet? It's a high pitch noise and I think it's the battery. I've read the manual and even googled this...haven't had any luck. Just wondering if it's a problem or normal. I'll be happy to trade computer questions for Tacoma questions. Thanks!
