Curious if anyone knew what this black box under my dash is? A light on it started flashing yesterday and stopped my truck from starting. I was able to get the light to stop flashing and allowed the truck to start by fiddling with the wires a little bit. Thinking maybe the previous owner had some sort of ignition interlock and one of the wires is coming loose from where it plugged in?

Is there any way to figure out if the alarm is working? Obviously the disable works, even if the wires are a bit loose.

Way above my pay grade first I would try to fin out alarm type you might Google the numbers on the tag or consult local alarm installer.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Definitely one of those piece of shit aftermarket anti theft deals. Get rid of it, they only cause more problems than good in my experience. I had one that the PO installed in my old 2000 Monte Carlo SS, the thing not only f**cked with the car's ability to start sometimes, but it would randomly shut down while driving, and loved to blow the A/C and cruise control fuses randomly. I tolerated that for a month of owning the car and had it taken out.

Way I see it, unless it's a factory installed anti theft system, anything aftermarket, dealer installed or owner installed is just a waste of time and money. Just another headache to deal with later on.

    It definitely looks aftermarket.
figure out where the other end of the wires go would be step one.

They were a dealer "rip me off for every bell and whistle" upgrade that detoured no one. Thieves would just pull the wires from the back of them, tie them together and they were gtg. It is worthless to you unless you have the key for it that goes on your key chain.

Yea thats a dealer aftermarket disabler, my wife's Camry had one. You plug a plastic card in socket and the car starts. it was like 250 back in the day.

The funny thing is there is a wire underneath the lower steering column trim piece that, if unplugged, creates a nifty little free alarm mod. The alarm will go off if the doors are unlocked manually and the truck has been locked for 2 minutes. I did this and have had no issues for several years!

Sounds like when you bought the truck you missed seeing this??

Then no mention of it was ever made.

Get the parts to turn it on and off or remove it cause sooner or later it will leave you sit.

This. Start tracing wire and remove the alarm system.
