I'm new to this forum and hoping to get some help deciding whether the new 2016 taco will work for me. Currently I have a 2011 4 runner sr5 with towing package and a 17' Casita trailer GVW 3500 lb. I love my 4 runner but I want to get a bigger trailer 24' GVW 4700 lb and don't feel comfortable with the 4 runner's short wheelbase of 109" and towing/tongue capacities of 5000 lb/500 lb. The taco's 127" wheelbase and 6500 lb/650 lb towing/tongue capacities seem adequate. I'm wondering about power. I know the new engine produces more hp but it is about the same as my 4 runner I think. Also the frame has been strengthened. Not sure whether the towing package is the same or better with respect to tranny cooler and suspension. I will of course have a brake controller installed and sway bars. I don't speed and don't care if I have to slow down some on steep grades. I plan on 4-5 trips per year--going to a destination and staying a week or more. Thanks for any input.

    Why not another 4 runner?
I would think at this point for the question being asked is you would be fine with the new truck. Bags are always a good towing move even if you are not using the full capacity of towing. But even it being an older model if chosen would be more than officiant. Unless you are going in the mountians. At 4600 lbs. In mountians would put a strain on any midsize.

I want something like the 4 runner but with longer wheelbase and more towing/tongue capacity. Do you know if the 2016 taco towing package has beefed up tranny cooling and suspension?
