So I am in the process of replacing my clutch after 200,000 hard miles, many of witch were towing a 6000# boat. The flywheel and tob look great, but the shift fork pivot ball thing has come lose. The steel threads of the poor ball have stripped the female threads on the bell housing and the hole is no longer round. It seems that my only option is to replace the bellhousing. How do I remove it?!?! I have removed all of the bolts I can see from the inside and it won't come off! Thanks for any help.

Is there not enough material to drill and heli-coil the housing?

As for your question, the transmission has to be split apart in the center to remove the bellhousing, which you probably want to avoid. Although the sealant is likely broken at this point, so likely no going back now.

I cannot answer your question but I do have a suggestion. Be sure that you change the TOB and face the flywheel regardless of how they look.

Thank you, I did. I only said that as a testimony for the quality of a transmission some have had issues with.

Where did you get the bell-housing unit at and how much if you remember?
