so I have a 2001 Tacoma sr5 4wd truck that is in need of new struts and rear shocks. I need advice on which route to go spending money wisely and getting something that will last. Bilsteins look good but they are very expensive especially having them shipped to Hawaii. What's a good factory replacement? And how do I know if I need the spring and everything? The bushings are completely shot and the front end sits lower as a result.

How many miles do you have on the vehicle? I would say that bilsteins 5100 set at zero and using your factory spring would be your best bet if you want to retain stock height.

The front end is supposed to sit lower anyways.

If your not lookin for lift check out the KYBs on rockauto.com, ride about as good as the billies but a bit cheaper. I got kybs up front and bilstein 5100s out back and rides good all the way around.
