What kind of camper do you have?

TOO many people speed when towing, I don't care what the set up is speeding and towing is dumb.

 

Had this little Coleman sense 1997. Replaced the roof once & the awning dry rotted......everything else works great.

 

What year taco do you have? Does it have the factory installed towing package with tranny cooler and heavy duty battery, alternator, and suspension. I'm about to buy a new trailer with the same specs as yours. I currently own a 2011 4 runner and was considering trading it in on the 2016 taco until I read your post. I too live in Az and would travel primarily in the SW. I know the 2016 taco has a new engine with more hp and that the frame has been strengthened. I'm not a speed demon but I want to be safe. It was a 2010 TRD Double Cab Long Bed V6 4x4 with the full towing package. Suspension was lifted 2.5" from stock. Everyone I've seen online with these size trailers in mountainous areas end up going to a full-size truck. I went overboard and got a 3/4-ton diesel, but the folks that traded their Tacomas for Tundras or F150s were much happier.

Went up to Tahoe this weekend. First time towing the trailer that high. Was able to go 55 in 3rd on some steep hills and tow at 65 everywhere else in 4th. For a V6, I think it did a great job considering the trailer was 4700 loaded, about 600 lbs of fire wood, and 4 adults.

 

Good deal. I think the Tacoma does well for a mid size truck with a V6. What's the inside of that camper look like?

I'm in the process of buying a 2008 KZ Sportsmen 280RL (28' obviously) from a family friend. Wasn't at all in the market, but the deal is too good to pass up and I know the camper has been taken care of crazy well. Comes w/ WDH also which is nice. Will more thank likey be adding air bags to my F-150 to help level it out, but the weight should be no problem @ about 6,300 lbs dry (I'm rated to tow 9,000 and payload is 1,700). This will be my first camper, but the girlfriend has had them her whole life and is dying to have one, so here I am, a soon-to-be new travel trailer owner...

 

Lift, Bigger tires all will effect your towing capacity and driveline in a negative way.

 

Hey everyone,I need some advise.my wife is all set on making an offer on a keystone premier 19fbpr.it's 19 feet and ways 4200 dry.can our 15 sport with tow page tow it all right? I already bought the p3 brake con trolley and wdh.I've towed a bit in my life,just think this is about max I'd like to go .thanks

 

My 18 ft toyhauler 4700 loaded, 650 lb of adults, about 600 lbs of firewood in the bed and roughly 550 lbs of tongue weight pulled it alright. Did not like the steep hills (Donner Pass) but cruised good everywhere else. Averaged 10.25 mpg round trip with 32 inch MT tires and 2.5 inch lift. I did have a WDH and airbags... I think you should be fine with that camper depending where you live. Just take it slow on the grades.

Just took our first camping trip with our Tacoma. The more things I do with this truck, the more I LOVE IT! We can have the pop-up open and ready in about 15 minutes. Great little camper, sleeps six or two kids in separate beds. This is at Grover Hot Springs, near Tahoe.

Here's my 2015 Cruiser Viewfinder 21' camper, weighs close to 5000 dry, took it to beach a couple times, Tacoma tows it good with the equalizer sway control hitch and stops great with the P3 brake control. I like the two slide outs and the wife likes the island bar and sink, queen side bed which i replaced with a Serta cool memory foam and it sleeps great. I looked around at several before buying and like the options and features, here's some pics.

 

Just purchased a Shasta oasis 26RB. Went with a 1200lb load leveling hitch with anti sway as well as the auto disconnect for backing up. Installed a Tekonsha P3 brake controller today. Anyone think I am going to regret such a large trailer? It will be well below my capacity for towing and my truck is a dbl cab with 3" lift and canopy. Should be plenty heavy.

 

Almost 30ft long? 5300 dry with no options. Add propane tanks, batteries and youre at 5500 with gear and water tanks left to fill... That sounds like a death trap to be hauling that long of a trailer with a tacoma. Im sorry if the specs I found are not correct. But if they are, I would suggest finding a full size truck..

 

Your specs are correct. I will not tow loaded or wet. I know it's a bit big but I think it will be ok. I have a a decent amount of weight on my truck with canopy and bumper. It being a long box should make it a little more stable. I'll be sure to hit the scales and make sure I'm not over my 6300 lbs for towing.
