    I haven't started a thread in a bit, and I'm bored.

    I'm pretty close to buying new studded and siped Toyo M55 255/85/16 tires. They're about the same price as doing a 3rd from ECGS with a locker.

    What would you do?

    Background:

    My old snow tires (265/75/16) are in good enough condition for another winter. I'm just really enjoying my current look and ride with my (worn) 255 M55s and want some for winter too.

    I already installed the ARB compressor (CKMA12), so installing a third would give me a locker with minimal effort and cost - relatively speaking.

    I fully intend to lock front and rear. My only real hang up is that if I decide to do gears I have to do both at the same time - I use 4x4 regularly troughout the year.

    If I don't do gears, a crawl box will be in my future. It would be a win-win. I'd have the mpgs of stock with crawl power at the stroke of a lever. It would be a couple years, so...

    What would you do?

    If I was you and lived where you do, I wouldn't be messing around with my truck, I would be getting my stuff ready for muzzle loading Elk season.

    Nah... we don't have a muzzle loader season.

    I shoot my bow almost every day, though and I'm picking my rifle up from the gunsmith tomorrow - doing a little tweaking on an already awesome setup. Six weeks of archery, followed by six weeks of rifle. Don't forget a month of bear hunting in the spring!

    The ski hill opens a week or so after rifle closes, and it closes about a week before spring bear opens. I snowboard over 70 days per year and I hunt over 40 days per year, including a couple week long trips each year. I'm ready for all of it (already got my bear, so there's a tag I can't fill this fall...)

    I'll probably get the tires, but I'm interested to hear what others have to say. The locker is really tempting.

    C'mon folks, I know you lurkers have an opinion! Have some fun with it!!

    Stopping isn't the only issue I encounter. This was 13 miles back and the snow was 3 feet deep :D That guy isn't me, his jeep got stuck over a mile before this.

    Judging by the snow pack you're sunk into I'd probably say rubber is more important than lockers. A good set of winter tires is about the best thing you can do in winter in my limited experience. ;)

    I don't know if it would have made much difference to be more detailed in the original post, but...

    My "old" tires are studded Dean Wintercat SST with about 80% tread. Awesome tires and in great condition.

    Tires first for sure! But I got stuck last year (crappy tires tilted road) And locking the diff really helps when its super slick..

    The slider project is in the works already. Not a factor. When I do the front locker, I'll replace the LCA bolts and bushings. That will be as close as it gets to "perfect" mechanical condition.
