Not really sure where to post this... I'm planning on building my own rear bumper soon. In the meantime I could be riding around without a rear bumper. Let's say I were rear ended without a bumper on. Would insurance cover the accident? Also would they cover an accident in a bumper that I build? I'm not sure if bumpers have to pass some sort of safety inspection or what. I see the older Toyota trucks all the time with what looks like no bumper at all or the ones connected to the body. Anyone have experience with this?

Whatever your states requirements for a vehicle to be on the road are what you should look at.
Call your insurance company to ask about coverage. No reason to trust tacomaworld with that kinda thing when it could bite ya in the rear if something happened.

That said. Ive driven many of my trucks with no bumpers/beds/misc body parts with no issues from police never was in an accident though

Definitely call your insurance company. Alot of lowered trucks have roll pans, which is essentially riding around without a rear bumper, so I'd imagine they would be in the same boat as you.
