The OEM radio in my '11 Access Cab turns off by itself? Any idea on what's making that happen?

Mine does this as well. Its not very often, maybe once a month or less.. But I have no idea why. I thought I was the only one that had this problem. It is kind of annoying. It seems to happen in the heat. I live in Texas, so it can get a little hot.. Don't know if there is any correlation though.

The one in my 12 doesn't turn off but the screen goes blank and no controls on the radio will work but the steering wheel controls still do. (volume, input, track) This started right after the 36000 mile warranty ran out, just over one year old, it only seems to do it when it is very cold outside. Sometimes the screen will come back on if I touch a button on the radio itself. Drives me batty but since the steering wheel controls work I just let it play out.

If you're still under warranty take it in and have them replace it. Quite a few on here have done that. I just replaced the HU with a Kenwood. Mine had only done it once or twice.

The radio in my 2009 Access Cab started doing that when it was less than a year old. And sometimes the radio would stay on, but the radio illumination would go out (it would go dark). I had it replaced under the factory warranty. About a year ago the replacement radio started doing the same thing. I replaced it with a JVC and have no regrets.

If I replace the head unit, will the steering wheel controls still work with it?

My truck didn't have steering wheel controls, but Crutchfield (and others) have adapter harnesses so that you can connect those to your aftermarket stereo. The unit I installed was a JVC KW-V30BT, and I added a small Kenwood KSC-SW11 sub a couple of weeks ago.

My 2011 did that also but I had it replaced under warranty and it hasn't done it since.

My OEM JBL head unit has been doing this for a few years now. Last month the woofer stopped working. Think its time to upgrade the head unit and the woofer. But with 72k miles on it I think it may be a waste of money.

Mine just started doing this as well. 2010 Tacoma not jbl. It will also turn off if I push the plastic above the number two preset. Is there a fix or should I start saving for a new double din.

Seems to be a Toyota idiosyncrasy. Even my 1984 4runner did this. I think I had a Blaupunkt unit, and then a Kenwood. Both radios did the same thing. It was usually triggered by going over a pot-hole or something. Never could figure it out. Just put up with it. My Taco doesn't seem to be doing it, though.
