Overboard??? Hahahaha, I'm pretty sure you just dove in head first.

If I was just starting out and had a budget of $6K here is what I would do:

Icon stage 3 up front (I may be a little biased though), rides great on or off road
Dakar leaf pack with extended travel Icon shocks in the back
Whatever wheels and tires I thought looked good (probably go with 33" BFG KO2s personally)
Plate bumper, skid plate and sliders

And right there you are probably right around the 6k mark if not over it but along with some of the cheaper and easier small mods you have one hell of a capable truck to take pretty much anywhere but still isn't so far overboard... (haha had to say it) that it's not able to be a daily driver (albeit with a lower MPG)

Just my 2 cents anyway.

 

Hmm I like I like. But king coil overs and shocks instead of icon stage 3 This probably puts you over a bit more though..........
