I have one for my 2000 tacoma. My buddy has one for his 2004 so yes you can get it. Contact your local Toyota to get one, but it wont be too cheap.

Might be cheaper to go aftermarket route.

I just didn't know about how programming it to the truck would be. I've heard whatever fob you have that the Toyota dealer has to program it to the truck

look under your seat and see if the viper security system was installed by the factory. it will be a grey box. my fob went south so i bought one on ebay for like 20 bucks then programmed it to the box.

So you have not received any type of fob? if your truck does not have remote entry you'll have to have the entire system installed.

    hi all,

i called a few places and the 2004 was not wired for it. the 2005 was.

i CAN purchase an "alarm" system but you have to take it to the dealer to coordinate the electronics and i do not have viper security...

three dealers said that they would charge $600.00 to INSTALL it, but first i have to find one.
ebay has lots of them, but i wouldn't know if i was purchasing the correct item. the dealer wants $125.00 for the system.

    guess i'll live w/o it...

thanks to all of you for your help.

hey man, what exactly are you wanting? cause all that mess that i just read is nonsense. i bought a keyless entry kit for $30 from samsclub. its a bulldog security, it only has the keyless effect though nothing else. (lock/unlock) and i have the added relay for the parking lights to flash when i hit lock and unlock. i bought my truck, and the guy i bought it from had some mess installed when he had it. but we took it all out. it was pretty simple wire up. just get a box or two of the male AND female connector things. now the sound i dont know what your wanting there? a horn honk confirmation maybe?

and if your asking about the factory keyless entry kit. i researched that too, what your looking for is the RS-3200 the remotes, and a wiring harness for a 2004 correct? that shouldnt be too hard to find. start researching. after i did, i have a 2002 if you didnt notice, and the rs-3000 or rs-3200 will work in my model, but the wiring harness is impossible to find for that year, it is all plug and play if you get this kit though. or you can go aftermarket route. ignore what the dealership tells you. start searching for keyless threads on here or 2004 toyota tacoma keyless threads in google.

Try this site for key fobs:
    http://www.carandtruckremotes.com/toyota-remotes-tacoma-remotes.html

The main module for the factory installed alarm on my 2000 Tacoma Pre-Runner is up under the dash on the drivers side, all the way to the left. See if you can find the alarm computer module, the part# should be on it, then google the part#. I've been fighting with my alarm after my battery was disconnected for about 3 months-my key fobs quit working, and I think they need to be reprogrammed. Good luck!

    Howdy gtaber,

I have a 2000 pre runner and when I got it there was no key fob included. I was thinking of going to a stero shop for an aftermarket system. Do you have any experience in bringing an old stock system to life or installing a aftermarket system?

Actually, I just removed my alarm completely. The electric actuator in the drivers door went out, so it had to be locked and unlocked manually, my key fobs had quit working, so I just pulled it out. Been opening car doors with a key for 40 years, so it's no big deal to me. The passengers door still has electric lock, but it's not remote entry. If you have the cable with the big D connector on it,and the little sensitivity control, you should be able to put one in after you figure out which wires are what that went to the old one. This file might help getting the old one working if you still have it installed. good luck!

Just bought an 04. Because it came with the Convenience Package (power locks ...) it originally came with Keyless Entry.

The seller didn't have the remote fob. The Toyota dealer (this morning) quoted $75 for the remote fob + labor to program, but yeah I'll be trolling eBay for a used one and program it myself.
