Still trying to figure out which model to get. Is anyone coming from owning a 2nd Gen and can comment how the AT worked in that Taco? I've only ever driven manual cars the past 21 years. I wish the MT V6 was offered in lower DC 4x4 models. Trying to keep costs down. Don't need all the extras. Just don't know if I'll get tired of AT. I live in southeast PA, so I'm thinking 4x4 may be more ideal than 4x2.

Just got a call from my dealer. My preordered truck will be made on 9-21-15. He hopes to have it at the beginning of October! Very excited!!!

I'm getting a blue TRD Sport, 2WD, Double Cab, Short Bed, grey/grey interior, NAV, JBL and a moonroof.

Did I say I was excited yet?

Yeah, I wonder how long they sit before being shipped. I believe mine is slated for a 9/15 build.

Good points. It gets so expensive, that it just makes sense to get a full size at that point. Not sure what I'm going to do yet. I have trouble holding on to cars. haha. I wanted to attempt to get a Taco, and keep it for 10+ years. Losing too much money every time I trade in.

How exactly are people pre-ordering the 2016 Tacoma? Makes no sense to me why Toyota would spend all this money on marketing the release of the new Tacoma and not post the configurator. I too am interested in potentially buying a new Tacoma but would rather minimize salesperson involvement.

Easy. I went to the dealer, we went through the list of Taco's being built/shipped, claimed it and had it rerouted to here. I then put down the deposit on it. That's how. lol

I don't know that you can custom order yet, but you can pre-order the ones that are already slated to be built.

The autos were originally designed to handle the 4.7 V8. The manual was not. Nuff said.

I think the majority of people including people who go off road in their tacoma prefer the auto is for 4 main reasons.

    1) 90% of people cannot drive stick:confused::((not every tacoma owner is on this forum, yeah I know it's sad).

    2) 10% that do know how to drive stick cannot let anyone else borrow the truck, like a spouse, because THEY don't know how to drive stick.:argue::annoyed:

    3) they live in a suburban/unincorporated/rural/city area where they catch traffic going to/from work and eventually get sick of playing between 1-2-3 gear.:burnrubber:

    4) scared that they might have to change the clutch after someone borrows it:help:it (more $$$ Assuming that they don't know how to change the clutch)

I'm in the second situation where I would buy a manual if I knew 100% sure no one else would drive my truck.

I think these are the reasons that 95% of all cars that are being manufactured are automatic.

P.S. The %'s in this post were pulled out of my a$$. But they are pretty close to the truth.

Also, most car thieves can't drive a stick. Great deterrent!

I've never understood #2. I taught my wife how to drive a manual. She loves driving my 5 speed Lancer. And since I work with a bunch of engineers, literally everyone I know drives a manual or has at some point in their life.

#1 is easy theft prevention. #3 is what it is. Consider it a leg workout. As for #4, see my response to #2.

I guess with me it's the fact that I want to be in control of my engine. I don't care about gas milage or acceleration as much as I care about not being bored behind the wheel. Put me behind an automatic and I nearly stomp a hole in the floorboard while approaching stops. My wife laughs at how wired my brain is for a manual transmission.

So M/T for me, not that I have a problem with the A/T, I just prefer it, no matter the compromise.

That's interesting that yours actually has the price. The sheet that was printed out for me has everything but the price which was at zero. lol

There is a lot of confusion on how that Configure Your Tacoma feature works.

You can only configure a Tacoma that already exists on a dealer lot in your sales region. The 2016 hasn't landed yet, and so there isn't any configuration option allowed.

When they hit dealer lots, the feature will work, and it will still only allow you to build a truck that actually exists already. It is something they use to drive sales to dealers, it isn't a "pick one from every column and we will custom build it for you" feature.

It functioned the same with the 2nd gens. If you want a DCSB V6 4x4 in a 6 speed and no dealer had it in stock or allocated, it wouldn't allow you to configure a truck that way even though clearly it exists.
