I'm purchasing a new 2015 from a dealer 1,400 miles away and want to get your opinion on how to best break it in on the way home. The Owners Manual states that during break-in you should "not drive at a constant speed for extended periods."

I plan on doing the entire trip in two days. According to Google Maps, the first day's distance will be 650 miles. I'm staying overnight with a friend the same day I leave the dealership. I'd prefer to do this leg on the Interstate, especially since trying to find an alternate two-lane route has been challenging, but am concerned about the "constant speed" warning.

What's your thoughts on how best to approach break-in for this situation?

Just drive it, and don't use cruise if you are worried. My wife bought a yaris in 07 and drove from ks to seattle the next day. No issues at all in that car and it has 125k on it now.

The manual has a brief break in description.

It reads something like, avoid hard braking and acceleration for the first 1500k, avoid using cruise control and constant speeds. no towing etc etc.

My '15 has about 3500kms, and ive been keeping rpms varied , but mainly below 2500 when possible.

Come home and change the oil.

    Should be good to go.

I needed to tow a trailer full of lumber when I purchased mine. It only had around 200 miles on it. I call my Dealers service center and was told it wouldn't be a problem because the motors and transmissions are broke in at the factory.

I have read the factory break in report before but would be interested in the protocol used. Any inside information would be appreciated even though at 5500 miles mine is long past break in.

Started towing my boat within a couple hundred miles, bought it with 12 on the OD and I am around 95000 miles.
