Hey folks... I've always changed my oil but this time it was a bit too early in the morning. I knew i screwed up when i saw the color of the fluid coming out. Read most of the posts here and
reviewed most of the pics, but my transmission doesn't look like the ones in the pics. I can't find the refill hole. I looked where the pics show, but my transmission doesn't look the same. I've uploaded a pic of my transmission. Anyone have any ideas where it is? Not sure why they used the same bolt size for the oil and atf, that would have been at least a red flag. And what is the easiest way to get a new crush washer?

That is WS ATF. The hex key bolt it your fluid check hole. The fill hole should be a 24mm on the driver side of the tranny. 4 quarts of ATF WS and you need the check temps. I can check those tomorrow at work if you want, or if i can get the wife off her computer i can check tonight. There is a sequence to do that will have the horn honk or HLs flash when inspection temp is achieved

I couldn't remember what the warning was. Whenever I do the trans service its in the dealership and I have the techstream hooked up and can see a live temp read out. Sorry for the confusion

A little higher than you think. I also don't remember the last time I did an ATF service on a Taco

Ok.... I have this pic below. Is this my transmission? And it shows the Refill hole. Is this correct? From the looks
of the picture the Refill hole is on the drivers side like you mentioned.

You are correct. You should also see if the place you got the image has the sequence for temp detection

Ok... think I found it. The bolt says WS on it... it was higher than I thought. You guys are great. Really appreciate all the help!!!!! I did find the sequence for temp detection so that should be fun. I hope that's the right bolt. Ordered the fluids so it should be here in a couple days. Do you really have to use the WS fluid? I'm already out of warranty so does it matter? The manual says nothing else is compatible. Again thanks so much, i'll post a final update when i'm done. Wish me luck!!

You want to stick with WS. However, there are compatible fluids at the local autoparts store. Read the fine print in the back, should say compatible with Toyota WS. Here is a good video link for this process.

Great video, but he doesn't talk about how you check for level. He just replaced the amount he got out.

Sorry for your misfortune. A helpful tip for you.... When performing the sequence to get the truck in ATF temp mode, do it relatively fast, if you're too slow, it wont work, and you'll be like WTF is going on here?!?

isn't there more than one type of transmission? the one without a dipstick has to have the fluid heated before refill doesn't it? do you know which one you have?

One can never have too many light bars.
Maybe I am reading this wrong but the 1st and 3rd photo that the OP are pictures of the transfer case.

Thanks for the note on the ATF Temp check. I got it to work the first time, but I was short on fluid. So I refilled until it dripped out of the overflow and couldn't get it into temp check again until I did what you suggested (6 quick shifts) That did
the trick. It didn't blink it stayed steady.. so I guess its already at the right temp. Opened the overflow and it trickled a couple times.. so i guess i'm done. Anyway it was due for a drain anyway so I guess it all worked out for the
This site is amazing. Thanks so much. I hope I did it right!

Ok, so I took it for a test drive.. it went ok. Then I took it for a long drive to go to the grocery store and it slipped twice. Once after stepping on the gas and another time when breaking. That can't be good. I guess I can try to check the fluid again.
The strange thing is when I checked the first time it only took 8min for the car to get to the proper temperature (that's when the light came on and that's from starting at cold). I thought that was a bit early based on other posts....
