I received my pioneer 4000nex head unit for Christmas and have had it in my truck ever since. I have been waiting for a firmware update to come out for Apple CarPlay so I can mirror my phone to the head unit. The update came out a few months ago so I finally got around to doing the update now I'm getting a software error message. The head unit doesn't do anything but show this screen, none of the buttons are functional and the reset button just clears this screen and reboots back to this screen. I'm sure it's 100% my fault as I must have done something wrong when downloading the file to the thumb drive. I would like to hear any advice as far as a shop to look at it or anything else. I'm sure pioneer won't help since it wasn't purchased from one of their approved stores.

Doing a quick search, there appeared at one time a few months ago that Pioneer had problems with their firmware: There are a few other sites that experience the error:

Firmware recovery mode available, but seems to be Pioneer faulty firmware:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/CarAV/comments/3em5zg/pioneer_avic_7000nex_problems

This one seems to be CD related:

This one suggested checking the grounding, but ultimately the radio had to be sent back:

And, if you want to try and hack your way out of this, try:

Perhaps re-downloading the software, and try reinstalling it again?

Thanks a lot for your reply, I am going to try to re-download that after work and see if it does anything. Hacking it might be a good option also but I'm not very confident since I have messed this up already.

After trying the update again and trying to reset it I'm still not able to get it to work. Looks like I will be sending it back to pioneer or whatever they suggest.
