so I'm on deployment and my fiancé is driving my truck. yesterday the coolant temp light came on, all other symptoms normal. temp gage remain mid position where it normally is, radiator is full and the resevior is just above the low mark when cold. not being able to actually look at the truck I'm lost.

    any ideas?
what actually causes the coolant light to come on? pressure, temp, or level?

Could be a sensor malfunction? I did a Google Search. Didn't come up with anything specific to the Tacoma. But a couple results indicated some OBD-II codes that can relate to this:

Might be a good idea to have your wife stop by an auto parts shop and see if they'll do a free OBD-II reading for her and see if a code comes up perhaps?

I think somebody is confused. There is no coolant temperature light that I am aware of and looking in the owners manual shows no light. Just the temperature gauge.

Is she talking about the red nozzle looking light? I'm with @Jimmyh on this one.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Maybe the TPMS light? Check the gas cap is tight.

    Didn't even catch that... multitasking.

OP - Have your fiance look at this list of Toyota dash lights and see if she recognizes one.

See. This is what you get when you "loan" your truck to your girlfriend... Geez! When you get home it will be totaled anyway, why worry about it.

Wonder if she's seeing this one? Low washer fluid?

Cuzz it's a body of water that looks like it's boiling over? ;) If you don't know what the symbols mean someone could mistake the TPMS symbol too?

LOL Trust me there are dudez out there that don't know these either.

My favorite though is the Blinker Fluid inspection. Back in 2001 I worked with a young gal who said her car wouldn't start. I'd never even heard of the blinker fluid joke... I just made it up on the spot 'cause I thought it would be funny. She fell for it and all the guys had a great laugh. ;)
