so I'm getting a full size spare and want to remove my current stock one. I know how the mechanism works to release it and what not but I was wondering how much force it should take to turn the mechanism. I feel like mine is either stuck or you have to really crank on it. It hasn't been lowered in 8 years so that could be it?

Yep, you better soak the little gearbox in PB Blaster. Even then good luck. 8 years? You might as well get an angle grinder and just cut it off.

Oh I just noticed you're in socal, if that were in NH you would be cutting that thing off for sure. Mine was corroded to hell by the 3rd year.
