I have a high idle in park at around 1300rpm, but in drive the needle is right at 750 so im thinking IAC. I just cleaned it and nothing has changed. Its a 96 with a 2.4. Do IAC's go out of whack electronically even though they are clean and the little valve inside rotates freely? Also, is it the consensus that if I replace it I should go OEM only or has anyone had any luck with aftermarket? OEM calls for part 22270-75030 for my year at a whopping $239, aftermarket on rock auto for $159 or China special on eBay for $59

Did you clean the MAF too? Did you clean the throttle body since you were in there?

Did you disconnect the negative battery cable for at least 15 mins so your ECU can reset and relearn? It might just be you need to let it relearn. Takes a few start up and stops after the ECU is reset.

    No check engine light?

My throttle position sensor was shot and it had a high idle in neutral (I have a 5 speed). But it threw a code.

No codes, no vacuum leaks. Ive been over this thing with a fine tooth comb. Its had idle issues in different forms here and there since ive owned it and they have always been a gremlin and seem to come and go. Im at the point of thinking outside of the box that maybe, possibly something in the tranny or torque converter. Who knows at this point

Yes. Mine ('96 2.7L) had a clean IAC that worked when I applied 12v to it, but I still had stalling problems. Replaced the IACV, and never had those problems again.

    Yes, use the OEM part.

mine was the same way. Worked sometimes, stalled others. It took me months before I finally broke down and replaced the IACV. Haven't had the problem again since.
