I know our tacos are one of the ultimate camping machines, and this probably doesn't fit on this forum, but is anyone into those old 70s and 80s vw vans, westfalias, anything of that nature? I would love to buy one but they are't cheap by any means! really I'm just looking for awesome pictures/stories of them on adventures to convince me to buy one lol

Love them, theres a solid movement of people living nomadicly in vw vans right now, I would love to have one someday as a camping and surf van. Vanagons can be had for a good price, but anything westfalia is fairly expensive...

Heres a blog on a couple who travel around in their vanagon:http://wheresmyofficenow.com/

I owned a '66 splittie, a '68 bay and an '83 Vanagon. They were all fun to play around with, but not really compatible with today's speeds and traffic. Getting good quality parts for the air-colled VW's is tough- most of the junk from India, China or Brazil is significantly poorer fit and finish than OEM German stuff. Prices for Westy Vanagons are absolutely stupid right now. You could buy an FJ40 for similar money.
