And spending money to maintain it, and maybe $$$ storing it, and enjoy crowded campgrounds with it, and more money maintaining it. :D

Less is more, just rent one when you need it and save the hassle.

Or just get an RTT and bed rack, and make the kids sleep in a tent on the ground!

Get 2 RTTs. One over the bed, one over your offroad trailer.

That's nicer than my house :p Where's the TV?
Everybody should try the RV thing at least once. Some like it, some don't. I did it for awhile with my wife and kid, hated every second of it. They liked it, so that's all that counts.
Tent Trailer, so not quite as heavy but still tipped the scales at around 2400 lbs loaded. I pulled mine ok, He should be able to pull it fine with the 2nd gen, but won't win any races.

With the exchange rate where it is these days I've been spending allot of time looking at these. When looking at the prices figure about 25% off.

Camped in the Eastern Sierra's this past weekend. Took the tC since I wanted to save fuel, and managed to pack all our camping gear plus our three dogs.

Looks like a knock off of the UEV's. I'd take one of these in a heartbeat!

Who knocked off who? Pretty much all of these off road trailers are of age old South African and Australian designs with a new twist added to them now and again. Conqueror is originally from SA and G.I.C. is from OZ and they both have a reputation for quality gear. There are heaps more out there that are similar as well but I have first hand experience with G.I.C. and Kimberley brands as we've rented one of each brand when in Australia and had great success with each.

I have a friend who has a similar tent. Not sure what brand he has but it fits on his ford explorer in the same way. He both likes it but says it has some annoying parts to it. He likes the fact you can get in the car from the tent. He sleeps in the back of the car and uses the tent as a bit of vestibule instead of a tent. Awesome for when it is raining. The one thing i remember him saying he didnt like is just when he opens the back of his explorer and it fully opens it pulls the tent up a bit around the edges. So he keeps stuff like a foot from the edges so there is material for that so it doesnt rip.

So guess what im saying is he likes his but it does have potential drawbacks. But like any system it has pros and cons

How would you get one of these imported? I'm interested in something like this too, although I might just go with an Aliner with the offroad suspension.

I'm actually talking to the people at G.I.C. - Black Series - right now and waiting on a reply to some questions I have such as if they will assemble the trailer with the kitchen and outside living space arranged on the right side of the trailer instead of the left as they have it now. Since we are a series of left hand drive countries here in the Americas having a trailer built for use in a right hand drive country does create a few minor inconveniences. Importing is a fairly painless process unless you are impatient as ships only move so fast across oceans.
