took my truck to the dealership i bought it at.... what a bunch of idiots....

the service guy i talked to on the phone said "We are not going to repair physcial damage you caused to the truck"

i said "i didn't cause the damage, your poor quality, rinky dink tail gate caused the damage"

anyway, get there, talk to the service manager and he says "well i've been with toyota for 31 years and i've never heard of a service bulletin on tailgates" so i handet it to him where i printed it off from this thread :p

he looks at it, and tells me to call the 800 toyota # and get a case #...

i did, but the problem is, i hit 36 months in last december... only 17k miles, but am over on the months...

they are supposed to call within 3 days... we'll see

You're probably SOL because of the years... :( I probably would have marched right out to the showroom and proceeded to cause a big scene about the lack of quality and how you can't even load a Harley into the bed without the tailgate buckling. I have to say, Toyota seems to be pretty dang arrogant when it comes to warranty claims IMO.

    Matt,

yeah, that's next... good call.... i'll play mr. nice guy until they jerk me around some more. i hate to be that guy that causes a scene, but sometimes people force us into those positions!!! if people would just take care of the customer, we wouldn't have to do that!!!

hey, what part of the bluegrass state you in?? i was born and raised in somerset / pulaski county.... about 1 hr south of lexington.... try to make it home once or twice a year at least....

I agree, the last thing I want to do is cause a big scene, but when you spend this kind of money on a truck, there are certain reasonable expectations-loading a ATV or bike w/o crumpling the tailgate being one! I'm in Harrodsburg, about 30 minutes south of Lex out Highway 68. We live on the Pallisades of the KY River actually. I try to go to Somerset a couple times a year for the Somernites Cruise In with my Mustang. :D BTW, GO BIG BLUE!!!!!

    They are replacing it!

i called the 1-800 number, got a case number, they sent the info to my local dealer, and they approved the fix.

they got my new tailgate in, it should be painted and put on sometime next week... they really took care of me on this one with no hassle... i'm very happy with them...

now i just hope the new one holds up!! i'd like to do the diamond plated thing!!

Well I have an appointment monday at the dealer to "check the springs" as the service person states. I am now out of warranty as of 4-1-10. I cant wait to see what happens. I bet they tell me to bad. I only have 30566 miles but im sure that doesnt matter. I tried to call the 1800 number but they were closed. Ill post up monday with my results. Wish I would have found this site sooner.

I had my truck delivered on 07/15/05. On 01/29/08 with 22,248 miles I went back to Ventura Toyota and told them that I have windshield noise and my truck bottoms out. On 02/01/08 performed TSB SU006-07 and TSB NV006-07 , as well as a 5000 mile premium mantainace package along with a wash and interior clean.
Service the way it should be!

regarding the AAL TSB; i just received an email from Toyota saying my parts for my repairs are at the dealership and ready for pickup or to set up an appointment. I have an appointment for them to do the work but could i pick up the leaf packs and do it myself?? im just thinking i could keep the old leaf packs for whatever reason.

Was not aware of this TSB but did have a issue w/ the rear leafs bottoming out w/ not much more that 600Lbs in the bed. The dealer let me know of the bulletin & did replace my springs w/ no grief. Soon after wards pulled my ATV trailer , 5X14 single axle w/ both ATVs & much better. Did have to have the head lights adjusted though because it does raise the rear about 2". Feels like a real truck now & more ready to haul

Every dealer is different. You might try calling Toyota first at 800.331.4331 and see what they say. If they give you a case# you can take that and the PDF to a dealer and give it a try. It seems absurd to wait for the tailgate to bend, replace it and then strengthen the new one, but that is what some places requir

I have read every post about this TSB and I havent found an answer to the following: I have a 3" leveling kit in front and air bags in the rear for towing. Am I still able to get the TSB done? Not worried about mileage or the 3 years till next February... Thanks for the help.

My tailgate bent bad first time I loaded a heavy motorcycle in it, unfortunately, the tail gate was stolen and now I have a used one that is not bent, but I will speak with my dealer about the TSB, also have replaced one leaf spring will ask them about the other TSB at the same time and see what happens.
Thanks for the info in this thread

Gentlemen, I've recently purchased an 08 Prerunner Double Cab, seems the suspension TSB would apply... I only count 3 leaf springs so I'm assuming it hasn't been performed. Is there a chance the dealer still honors this?

If you are not under warranty you may have to fight a little. Just make sure you take your title

Gah! Just bought an 05 and didn't notice the bent gate until I got it home. Pulled it off and put a net on it for now. Anyone got a lead on a new tailgate?

So could you just roll in with this TSB printed off, hand it to them and say, "hey, replace my leaf springs!" ? If you still have any kind of warranty?

Your leaf pack needs to explode like this before they will actually replace it......

Just my experience with the matter.

I just purchased an 08 tacoma double cab 4wd. Is there a way to tell by looking at the leaf springs to see if they have been changed or not?
I do know they look a little flat.
