Hey all, I have a 1996 Tacoma Ex. Cab. 4x4. Automatic, V-6. Truck has 163,000 miles. It's in great very good shape. The noise is coming from drivers side rear wheel....or very close to that area. Won't do it all the time either. When it does make the noise, its when I'm barely pushing the gas or letting off. Also does it some when going down a bill and deceleration.

We've checked the brake drum, springs, checked for loose bolts, drive shaft is fine, u-joints. I'm atva loss....anyone hear of this before?

    Thank you

Nothing in the tires either....almost sounds like something loose, but find one thing.

Exhaust leak? Might be your exhaust manifold if it is where you described it. Loose or cracked?

Are you sure it's only occurring during light accel/decel? Or is it occurring all of the time and your just can't hear it over the increasing engine noise? If you've got a little redneck ingenuity in you.. Just chock it, jack the rear up and have someone gas it up and down while you inspect it.

I know you said you checked your driveshaft but specifically check the carrier bearing for your drive shaft. I had to replace mine today because of a knocking noise i thought was coming from my front right wheel well.
