The suggestion is to run a mid travel set up, Icon, fox, or king in the 2.5 series. With a mini pack out back and rebuild able rear shocks. I need to make some decisions.

I would never recommend OME For an IFS truck, they ride too high on droop and you can't dial in the correct ride height ( compression to droop ratio). The shocks rebound valving is weak and causes the spring to unload very quickly hitting the internal metal stop causing a banging noise... When going over big bumps. I've seen OME shocks fail because the internal metal stop fails causing the rod to get loose. The suspension then over droops causing the UCA to hit the spring. When the shock is removed from the spring, the shaft can be pulled out of the body.
Nothing beats a high quality coilover shock..you will be smiling on every off road trip.

I just bought an OME setup last week after owning Kings on my Tundra. Thought about going Kings again for my Tacoma but decided to take the cheaper route for now and upgrade later on.... It was hard decision and I thought I was ok with it... Then I read your post and remember all the times I was cheesin ear to ear in my tundra running through the desert. Thank you for making me regret it. :smash:

Have you driven the truck actually off road yet? Speed bumps are not any kind of accurate simulation of any type of actual off roading. As you've noticed, they serve mainly to test/illustrate limited downtravel.

No off-road suspension that I know of handles speed bumps better than stock. What you really want for speed bumps is a really low spring rate and downtravel equal to uptravel. That's what stock does.

Also, if you're solving for the best ride, you'll adjust your adjustable-coilover suspension to have more down travel. That equates to less lift. If you get an extended-travel kit with upper control arms that allow extended droop, you can have both - but at greater cost and likely only after removing the sway bar which I believe you've retained until now. And to do that in the back, you'll need a frame cage or something like BAMF's shock buckets.

The OME equivalent trading less height for more downtravel is to use 884 springs instead of 885 springs. That's a much less expensive option than junking everything you've got and upgrading.

But the main thing you're learning here - and I hope others who read this post get it - is that there is no BEST suspension.

Once you vary from stock, it's all optimizing FOR some things and AWAY from others. Different users will end up with different optimal configurations. But once you get away from stock - you're signing up to tune your truck using what may be an iterative and experimental process.

You don't get to simply check the box that says "upgrade suspension to 'best'" and be done. There is no "best" and folks who tell new members "Oooooh, upgrade to Long Travel - it's the BEST" or "Yeah baby - swap to Solid Front Axle - that's the best thing" are doing folks a great disservice. Those choices are a very high cost, very high labor, very-high-risk-of-adverse-side-effects tradeoff in favor of a specific optimal off-road performance. And that is obtained only after a long period of dialing in and tuning.

Sorry Old Man Emu doesn't seem to be working out for you. Welcome to the world of unintended consequences and trying multiple times until you get it right.
