Hey so my amazing gf just bought me a Tepui Kukenam Sky, it should arrive in 3 weeks. I'm getting started on building the rack. I want to have the tent level with the top of the cab, now my issue is I've got a long box so I'm thinking 3 cross bars will be needed, but I also want to keep my tool box just wondering if anyone has a similar setup or has some ideas ?

Cool I really thought the weight would require 3 bars. I was looking at using some angle to sit on the bed cap. Then place the box on top and just use a longer bolt to secure the box. I was worried about the swing of the box lid. But the less messing around the better. Time to go get some bar and angle. I'll get pics up when I'm done. I'm excessively excited about this

Ya I haven't done any cap reinforcement at this point I was thinking of using the angle between the load bars to help distribute the weight and avoid replacing the caps but could be 6 one half dozen the other. Reinforce the caps now and make one less bar or just use 3 bars

When my buddy got a rtf I talked him into getting rid of the tool box and getting a rectangular one that took up the passenger side of the bed. This allowed the top to open, and he could actually reach everything in the box.

I thought about removing the box but being a contractor I really need it for somewhat secure storage, and topper is out of the question, I hate them passionately, anyways I've got a few things on the drawing board I'll post up what I come up with

I've been contemplating a drawer system ever since I saw the bed vault defconbrix has. Actually thanks for reminding me about that. Lots to think about and only 3 weeks to figure it out lol. Literally going on a trip the day after I get the tent lol. Now that I know I have an rtt on the way somehow my bear burrito tent just isn't gonna cut it lol

The problem is that you're looking at 11 inches max if you keep the tent under the higest point in the roof (it actually slopes down in the back) This means you'll be able to open your box in it's current position about 6 inches, and good luck reaching anything in it like that. If your current box doesn't reach all the way to the floor you could do the same thing with it as he did his new box. Take it off the front, put it in the bed length wise, and bolt it down to the bed. Let say you bolt it to the passenger side, you'll still have a large amount of storage space on the driver side for camping gear, coolers, etc, and he say's it is much easier to get things out of the box this way since he doesn't have to climb up as far to grab stuff in the center.

As doording suggested this makes me think I can mess with the positioning enough to be able to get the box open maybe lol

Nice, yea I'm big on totes. I'm actually going to gain storage with the rtt cause I won't habe my giant foam, tent, sleeping bag etc taking up space it's my understanding that you can leave the sleeping bag or blanket in the tent and it'll still fold up

Your rtt window facing the cab..... are you able to install your window awning rods. I can't because my rtt is low on the bedrack like yours. I was thinking next time I might open the holes up a little to be able to install the window apron rods on the rtt window that faces towards the cab.....
