In that case.. I really recommend Dakars if you're carrying a constant load. I have a 225 lb shell and I went from stock rear packs with a 3 leaf AAL and 5100s all around to OME 884 and Dakars and the ride quality improvement is unbelievable. Ride is firm but controlled and predictable, on the freeway it's a dream. Rides like I'm on pillows.

5100's all around with OME 884 at 0. Weathertechs, Carhartt seat covers. BFG KO2's 265/70/17. T4R SEMA wheels. 18% tint on front windows. General Springs HD 4 leaf pack, Leer 100 XR shell.
the shell and the firm springs makes mine ride like an suv and I like it.

That might be the way to go then. I'm not sure that I will keep my shel on all year round but that's not here nor there. What I care about is not having sag when I do load it up.

It'll sag some but not comparable to the amount OEM does. I think Pete just mentioned what his drop was at a certain weight load.

I have been running the Dakars for a couple of years. I like 'em. They are a touch on the stiff side but become pretty buttery when they get some load.

I called my local off road shop today and told them about my sag issue when loaded. His reply was that he was surprised as the custom AAL he added should be good for another 500lbs of load capacity. I asked him about the Dakar leaf pack and he said they only lift the truck about 2.5" ?!? When I asked him where we go from here he said measure from the pavement to the bottom of the fender and determine how much lift I wanted.

So I ask you all this, am I missing something? I'm currently sitting at 22.5" from hub centre to bottom of the fender in the front and the rear (with shell) I never measured before I put on the shell. According to the shop, when they did the custom AAL they only had to add .5" to the rear to level the truck and the front 885 coils with 5100s yielded 2.5" of lift. So it sounds to me like I have a 2.5" lift.

How much are the Dakars supposed to lift the rear of the truck? I know everyone is different but what does OME claim? A 2" lift, 2.5", 3.0"?????

Doesn't matter what they claim. There is a whole thread about Dakar lift heights and the average height is about 2.75".

Thanks. I've been reading different threads including the one posted by OZ-T 'Dakar leaf springs, actual lift measurement' and his other tread '2nd Gen OME Dakar hub to fender measurements' and it seems anywhere from 2.5" to 2.75" depending on cab configuration. That's why I asked if I was missing something....

    Thanks again DCSBFTMFW.

Where is a good place to get the Dakar pack from? My shop seemed to think they were about ~ $800 for a set.

What setup are you running and how many inches of lift do you have?

Looks like I'll be going to the Dakar springs.
