    Thanks URD!! It works great!
So I had the dreaded squeak coming fro the TO bearing. I decided to take the challenge of replacing the clutch myself because I'm stubborn and more importantly CHEAP.
Here is a good video that really helped me get an idea of what I was getting into:http://youtu.be/kJBXW65Q2FU
Now I will list the issues I ran into that will save you time and frustration.
I also bought a used trans jack (harbor freight special) on Craigs list for $40. That really helped.
So after watching the video here are the tips I could have used.
First, Removing the shifter assembly. I broke mine by removing the extension and not the whole assembly. It's very simple. Remove the boots and cover from inside the vehicle. the very last dust boot (the smallest one) just peel it back and you'll see a ring with flat sides. You press it down and turn counter clock wise and it comes right out. I have attached some pictures. A Chilton's manual would have probably save me $130. Haha!

Second, remove both exhaust manifolds. They come out very fast and make it much easier to reach the top bolts on the bell housing. The gaskets are reusable, at least they worked fine for me.

Third, when replacing the rear main seal, and you should since you are there anyway. After installing the new seal in the housing plate. The side of the seal that the spring sits in, (the inside towards the motor) fill in with grease. It helps hold the spring in position while you are installing it back into the vehicle.

Finally, after removing the trans, I noticed the motor leaned forward and would make it hard to line up the trans when reinstalling. I used a motor cycle strap and pulled the motor back down.

Good luck, I hope this helps. I try to respond in a timely manner to any questions.

P.S. I installed a UDR Throw out bearing kit to avoid any future problems. I just bought this truck and I noticed the clutch was recently replaced. It was a brand new looking LUK. You need to either get the upgraded TSB parts from Toyota or the URD kit. Otherwise the bearing with go out within 10K miles. I decided to trust URD over Toyota. They should have recalled this problem.

Did you need any special tools to install this kit besides basic hand tools?

Did the sleeve need pressed on or does it just slide on and lock with those screws?

Contemplating doing it myself in a weekend. Never removed a tranny before

    Thanks

    It slides and locks on.
However, just recently the dreaded squeak has returned. I called URD and they stated that while this kit fixed 90% of the problems sometimes the squeak does return. Their technical specialist went through the whole "reason" why the bearing makes noise due to the bearing wearing a grove into the shaft but then stated that is also because there isn't a spring assisting the bearing to seat up against the pressure plate.
He stated that that's what the Toyota upgraded or TSB slave cylinder does but Toyota has started to back away from that solution too. I don't know if that's true or not but all I know for sure is that the noise returned and I'm very disappointed. The technician on the phone stated that as long as the bearing doesn't make a grinding noise after I push in the clutch pedal the bearing is still good. I know that to be true, but I hate the squeak and that's the whole reason I spent $250 on the kit and the effort in replacing the clutch!!!

The only thing I do like is that the bearing rides on a stainless steel shaft vs aluminum, but I didn't see any signs of serious wear when I took it apart.

Buyer beware. Thought I was doing myself a solid by installing URD throw out bearing. Got about 2 years 15k miles. Then squealing. Cost me $600 to pull it out. Junk in my opinion. I am going back to stock. URD offered some credit towards a new purchase but I am steering clear. Unless you have plenty of time and or money I wouldn't use their stuff. Pissed and disappointed.

Seems like 15 miles is a common termination for the URD kit... guess I'll be sticking with oem on this one and save the extra $200

This is scary. I thought the URD TOB kit was getting great reviews. My 09 Taco has 74K miles on her now and just started squeeking. I'm debating if I want to go with the Stage 2 Clutch kit with light weight flywheel and TOB kit. But you guys are throwing my bearings on the idea, now......

I would really like to hear from URD on TW so they can inform if the bearing has been upgraded since 2014 to put these concerns to rest. I recently purchased the kit myself, but am now Leary about installing it with this latest news. I also called tech service today and am awaiting a call back. If I don't hear back I will return the kit and just purchase a stock bearing. Hopefully, URD stands behind their products because TW has really backed their products.

Hey bro, spoke to URD and they let me know they were having issues with their bearings on there original kits and have since changed to an OME bearing that is much better and shouldn't have any issues. I will be replacing my clutch next month and will keep ya posted. My buddy was a lead mechanic at Toyota and had me by a new fork and ball for 80 bucks because they also wear out and make alot of chatter. If you push on your pedal a little and the chatter stops its usually that. Also went with an AISN clutch & flywheel from Rockauto.com

    Hope that helps some.

Just curious if you had an update. I just recently purchased my '06 and noticed that squeal/chirp/chatter? whatever you want to describe it and its progressed as I've had it. only when the clutch is engaged (not pressing down the pedal no matter in gear or neutral) so I'm 95% sure that its either my TOB or the fork and ball or both.

That is the exact issue I had! You will need to replace the fork and ball along with installing the URD kit because it is most likely wore out also. If you depress the clutch pedal and it quiets down then you have your answer. I replaced the whole shebang flywheel, clutch, fork and ball and she is like a whole new truck!!! Next will be buying a TRD short shift with Coupes modification:burnrubber:

i put about 4K on it and has been fine. Coupes mod is what you had done. How does it feel when shifting?
