Ya probly bad make up. Turn the breaker off open the plug and look for the loose wire. I doubt this but do you have a voltage tester? Those little things you plug in and it lights up or makes a noise showing that's there's voltage present?

Ok back to this one. The new fan works and the light. Ok , xan you find the fan wire that he added and fallow it back to the fau plug from where i think he took power and confirm that man or no? @PerfectTekniq

 

I don't like using the voltage tester, it's a reason we call it a idiot tester in the electrical trade. Get a multimeter and do it right. voltage tester reads voltage but then again it will read false voltage readings too. I'd pull the plug the guy installed and check for proper connections and hopefully didn't install it backwards, trust me I've seen it happen plenty of time. Also there's a chance when he installed it he used a circuit that shared the neutral. That will cause the breakers to trip too.

Fuck yes...I hate using them...I always get a volt meter to check to see if anything has power. Those little shits will lie to you and give you false readings...
One time I used one and said it had no power, went to grab the wires and shocked the hell out of myself

 

I don't like them either but I was gonna say if that is picking up voltage and the air still isn't working then it might be a loose neutral which gives weird voltages. I've never heard it called and idiot tester tho. People just don't trust it and for good reasons

 

I like mine, next to a plug tester is where mine sites. Now i don't rely on this! But i use it for sniffing if that makes any since guys .

Ya we all carry them in our vests and use them all the time but even if it says no power I always hit the hot to the box just to make sure

 

Sorry guys. Came down with a mean fever after a swim last night and have been in bed all night/day. The electrician called me and said he shut the breaker off on accident when working on another area of the house. I checked the breakers and they were fine so I'm sure he screwed up and is just trying to save face. Everything is all good now.

What the voltage tester is picking up is low voltage. Even if the hot wire is pulled off the plug. The residual voltages is still on it( the neutral). It's harmless to the touch (277V is a different story though) With a multimeter you can still see it will show 1-15 volts. For the idiot tester it will beep away. Hence a false reading. BTW voltage tester aka idiot tester aka idiot stick
