there seems to be a lot of hate for the gen 3 taco. Any alternative truck you recomend for the price range around $30k-40k? Will be used for daily drive to work and weekend fun(camping/off road). Or should I just stick with the 3rd gen? Thanks

Ps. I plan to get the double cab trd off road 4x4 a/t long bed

I bet Goro would like a manual Tacoma, he can drive stick and still have 3 hands on the steering wheel.

If your looking for a mid sized that can get you 20+ mpg then i think your only options are the 16 taco, or 15 colorado...

OP.... All the hate comes from a very small number of people. There are many many more that love the new truck, as much as one can without it being out yet. I can afford any truck I want, and the Tacoma will be my choice.

I never knew they existed until I passed one two days ago and thought "Suzuki makes a truck? Suzuki is still in business?!"

The Tacoma front end/grille choices and rear drums aren't the best, but it should still be a good truck. I'd probably go full size if I didn't like the Tacoma. Or I'd wait a year or so to get a look at the new Jeep Wrangler, Nissan Frontier. Ford Ranger/Bronco could be cool in a couple years too.

^^^^for a DD? god no, that thing sucks. A buddy owns one, and we used that thing as a dd for 3 years to base and back home. If you are super worried about gas, then yeah, but if you enjoy driving any bit, that thing sucks!

I drove the new colorado, I wanted to like it because I am a GM fan boy, but I think looks it loses, and options it loses to the Toyota.

It is really a re-badged Frontier..... so it's a Nissuki.

Next year Honda should be back with a 2017 model Ridgeline. Supposedly Nissan will have a new 2017 Frontier as well. If you're going to be in the market next year you'll have many more options to ignore and just get the Tacoma.

For offroading there aren't any. New Honda Ridgeline will be appealing with fulltime AWD and probably a smooth as glass ride with a truck bed but never a use for 4LO.

I had an 87 with electric carburetor. No that's correct electric carburetor, next year was efi. I could go 56 mph downhill with a tailwind. But could run over anything. I do miss it. My first 4x4, can't believe I didn't mess up the drive train I used 4wd for way to much. Needed a good winter coat as the thing didn't like to maintain a warm tp in the winter.
