Agreed! (hence my #1 on my observation list)

@ZachPrerunner, I also see nothing wrong with it being in a midsize. In the places I mentioned, there are diesels in pre Tacoma models (small Toyota trucks/Hilux) as well as the genII Hilux.

1st gear and the low RPM torque of a diesel will get you through some amazing stuff. Add the intercooled turbo like my buddys Hilux (2012?) and you get something that will run pretty well on paved roads, even over mountain passes.

I believe that the diesel just wouldn't sell well in America. The prices of fuel alongside the cost of production wouldn't justify the number of sales in the United States. Now if other car manufactures jumped on the idea and started production, it would be a different story. I'd like the idea of a diesel in a midsize, but it wouldn't be for "work" so to speak. If it achieved better mileage and economics, I'd probably invest in one. America is too influenced on "American Made", so many would probably laugh at the idea. That's just my view, but who knows.

Dunno. Never studied it, 'cause I live in 'merica, personally have no need for the power of a diesel, and it's not the best TCO choice here. At least for me.

We live in the land of absurd corn subsidized crap fuel and winterized gas. Which one can only hope will end in my lifetime.

2.07 regular, 2.29 diesel, today's gas buddy prices here.

The spread will grow when prices rise again.
