need some help w upgrading JBL system plz

Hello Gents,

Looking to throw in some new speakers in my 2011 DBL cab w/ factory JBL. One or more are blown and sound like crap. Nothing fancy needed. Just want to bring the sound quality back up to par or maybe a tad better.

Did a bit of research and still a little confused on a couple things. Lots out there about non-JBL set-ups.

The speakers I am primarily interested in are :

-JBL GTO 938 (6x9)
-JBL GTO 628 (6.5)
-Metra door speaker adapters
-Metra door speaker connector plugs/adapters

My questions given the above info:

1. What do I do with the stock tweeters? (they are in bad shape/blown...replaced one already with some junker). Wire something in parallel? Buy additional tweeters to wire in? I'm ok w/ eliminating the door tweeters all together if there is a way to make it work.

2. The above selected speakers have built in crossovers. Do I need to run anything else? I'd like to avoid running "external" crossovers if possible.

3. Would the below kit work as another option? Probably need external crossovers? Comes with tweeters. I don't know what the "problem" would be but I don't think this pkg. will work w/ JBL set-up without doing............(unsure on details)??

In the same boat.JBL with blow speakers,hoping crutchfield could help but no luck!Please post anything you come up with.

 

For the fronts you want a component set so you get your tweeters replaced as well.

You could remove tweeters all together, but sound quality will take a MAJOR hit since all of your highs are coming out of your speaker near your foot. Sit in the rear of a 4door truck and it will sound like that.

Since JBL failed you in the past I'd go with that setup you linked to. Kicker over JBL any day. You'll need adapters for the doors speakers still but other than that just plug it in and run with it.

 

Well, that whole experience sucked.

Got all the goods in one day (Amazon is amazing...seriously)

Bottom line: it doesn't work. Something about the JBL head unit or amp that just doesn't play well with the coax stuff. Tried all kinds of bypassing, unplugging, jumping, you name it......couldn't get the coax tweeters to work on the new 6X9's. Again, something built in to the JBL head unit or amp that needs to jive and it's, apparently, passed my pay grade and knowledge level. Not sure if its an Ohm thing, or what. If your going to keep the JBL rig, you have to run component stuff. I am going to gut it all and start from scratch a little later down the road.

Based on the fact that nobody has the secret, I'll take my "loss" in stride and reset/refit for another plan.

-As an FYI the front door speaker adapters fit the doors but not the speakers.

-No experience on the rears as it was game over early on.

-Metra wiring harnesses DID fit front door harness but NOT the speakers.

From the research I have done I believe it is a 2 OHM system with built in crossovers.Thanks for posting your results.But I still don't know what to do.I'm thinking about

JBLgx962 for 6x9 they are 2.3 ohm.on tweeters not sure.

 

so can I replace my door tweeters or no?
