    Received this battery: http://www.hamiltonferris.com/products/Batteries/Flooded_Lead_Acid_Deep_Cycle/18
as part of the package with my pop up camper. I have no real need to mount it on the camper because we always camp where there is a power hookup. The battery in my taco however, going on it's 6th winter. So is there any real reason NOT to use this particular battery in my truck?

It does appear to be over an inch taller, so I will have to check to see if that will be an issue.

Deep cycles are not designed to be continuously charged on an alternator. They are designed to be slowly drained and then recharged. You might carry it as a backup but I would not install as primary battery.

as stump jumper stated........... in a pinch you CAN use it as a cranking battery, but the alternator doesnt know when to quit. when you use something like a battery tender to maintain a charge, it brings the battery to capacity and floats. keeps it at a full surface charge.

while the alternator will always be above the surface charge. (i hope i didnt mess that up)
