If I were in snow I'd have considered those MS2's but I'm not so the AT2's work great for me. Night and day from the Dunlops!

Love my LT245/75/R16 LTX A/T2 tires :) They are tough, handle great, not loud, and get great mileage. I run these from May to October. I switch over to LT245/75/R16 LTX M/S2 Winter tires from November to April.

They are the Mickey Thompson Classic III in 16x8" with 4.5" backspacing.
I think the stock rim width is 7.5".

Ordering a new Tacoma Access Cab this weekend. Not to happy with the stock Dunlops. Will ask the dealer to replace with Bridgestone Alenza's. Anybody have any opinions about this decision?

My father-in-law uses the Michelin LT tires (M/S2 or A/T2 or whatever he can get at the time) on his Ram 3500 to haul fuel over rough woods roads for his logging operation. He says they're the only tire he will run since they have a tough carcass that will stand up to sharp rocks where other tires will fail. He doesn't care what they look like, just that they work because down time costs a lot of money and flat tires on the small fuel truck can leave expensive machines sitting in the woods doing nothing.

I just went from Nitto Grapplers to Michelin LTX M/S2 - HUGE difference! LOVE THEM - quiet and smooth!

    LittleLady,

As you have discovered, there is a tremendous difference between the Dunlops and Michelins. I removed the Dunlops on my Tacoma after 1300 miles because they scared me. I consider Dunlop the worst tire possible. Clearly there is a Toyota purchasing agent getting kickback money from Dunlop.

If you look at the tire survey at Tirerack, Dunlop ranks among the worst, while Michelin ranks number 1.

I have gotten over 100,000 miles out of three sets of Michelin's and drove with confidence. You will be pleased with your choice for many miles.

When you say "only ok in the snow" are you referencing that LTX M/S or A/T2?

Uhmm...I just bought a new trd sport and I like the Dunlop tires that came installed on the truck. Maybe because they're still new (less than 400 miles on them). They are quiet.

But I like the aggressive look on the AT2'S. I am waiting for Costco to have them on sale and swap the tires. Maybe I can sell the Dunlop tires for 250 bucks on CL :)

I ended up getting KO2s (175/70/17) and was able to sell the dunlops for $180 on CL with 20k miles. Good deal for all parties.

    re: winter...

MS2's are good in winter but the tread pattern doesn't move a lot of earth or snow. The zigzag siping gives great traction though.

The AT2's lack the zigzag siping so their traction won't be as good on packed snow or ice, however they have a more open tread pattern so they will be better in deep snow, as long as they still get traction on the frozen surface below.

Love my MS2's. I had BFG's on my last Tacoma and am so much happier with the Michelin's.

We have those tires. I don't think you are crazy. I think they are much quieter and smoother :).

Finally got rid of my Dunlop AT20s. I landed on the KO2s.
