Hey guy I just start having this problem. Sometimes when i startup the truck is shakes a little, i knew it was a miss and i confirmed with a obd scanner. I knew i needed to change plugs anyway so i put in all new ngk iridiums and swapped the coil on cyl 2 just in case it was a coil. after clearing the codes the check engine light came back on with the same problem. Brought the truck to my father in laws part store and tested for leaking headgasket with a combustion leak detector. The blue liquid never turned yellow so thats a negative.. Any suggestions on where to look next?

It doesnt miss at every startup, sometimes in the afternoon, sometimes in the morning, sometimes at night..

take those irridiums..... and change them out for the proper copper core plugs as listed in the owner manual.

Clean your MAF, and throttle body. Run some quality injector cleaner (Redline S1, Gumout with regain)

After doing what he said swap the fuel injector, If the problem follows it to the next cylinder change it out.

Just because the head gasket isn't leaking enough compression gasses into the cooling system for the test liquid to change colour doesn't mean that the head gasket is not weeping some coolant into the cylinder when cold. Pull #6 plug after sitting overnight, and have someone crank it while holding a white paper towel over the spark plug hole. Any wetness or pink colour on the towel is an obvious sign.

#6 head gasket is the one that seems to fail on the earlier 1GR's, are you 2005?

I don't think iridiums would cause a problem, i found lots of guys on the forums that said they use them with no issues

Does overflow not return water to radiator? Mine would sometimes and then sometimes not.

That was the same cylinder issue I had...I took it in 2x after thinking it was a head gasket..both times Toyota said compression test was fine and not head gasket....over a year later truck finally overheated and they confirmed it was head gasket. Truck had about 160K on it when I needed repair. I wanted Toyota to do the repair thinking a recall would be issued and I could get reimbursed.

You might also swap the coil pack with another cylinder to see if it follows that coil pack to eliminate or identify a coil pack issue.

No issues with them here. Will probably buy copper denso's next time, but they are there for a while more.

Well its gotten worse, now its really drinking coolant and you can see a little steam coming from the exhaust.. Bummer..
at least it doesn't look like a super difficult job to change headgaskets, and while i have the heads off i might as well resurface is and check all the valves. Maybe even replace the seals

Hello there what you need to do with a cylinder leak down test you have to determine which cylinder is leaking . Go to any auto parts store they sell the kit hook it up to a compressor put the required PS I in the cylinder when its at top dead center then see what the gauge tells you with regards to what percent of that cylinder is leaking I listen to determined where it's leaking from. For example if you hear aire escaping into the oil pan you know your piston rings are defective if at PCV valve intake valve is bad if you here Eric scaping in the exhaust system exhaust valve is defective need any help text me good luck this could be a bitch of a job?
