First off, thanks for the information and advice that is freely shared on this forum. I'm in the market for a 1st Gen and ran across this ad, I think its overpriced but a lot of 1st Gens seemed to be priced high. So, heres the link from craigslist.

Love it. I have a 96 sr5 in similar condition with 115k miles. I couldn't see letting it go for anything less than 10k. If it is as good as the pictures show, I'd say its worth around 15. I don't believe in Kelly blue book to tell you the value of your vehicle, for example, I previously owned a 98 Ford Ranger 4cyl stick shift w/ 163k miles, kbb put a value of $2,200 on it. Sold it for $5,300.

Very nice! $15K for a 128,000 mile, 11 year old vehicle though... sounds like a lot to me, but I am not sure what they typically go for in your area.

As they say, its worth what someone will pay. 2 years into my truck, and lots of time spent on this forum, and my gut says most places this would sell for a bit less (13.5?) The 4 door is very popular though and seems to command a high price. The only real question is whether its worth the price to you.

I don't see mention of a timing belt replacement, which is a bit overdue at 128k. If it hasn't been done, that's $500 off easy. Then again, if the owner recently had the AC replaced (whatever that means, compressor?) I can't imagine the TB would not have been done at that time if it had not been previously.

Here are some of the owners response to my email:

    Few questions about your Tacoma:

    1. How many owners/ clean title/ any accidents. Second owner, Clean Title, and No Accidents.
    2. Rear Diff Lock, Yes Factory
    3. What lift/ coils/ uca's- how many miles/ years on lift. Toy Tech Lift. 3" Front spacers, rear add a leaf w/ front diff dropkit.
    4. Any rust/ pics of undercarriage. No rust, don't have any pictures.
    5. What recent major maintenance/ receipts. Front end gone through, new ball joints, tie rods and axles.
    6. Timing belt/ water pump service, Both done at 90K w/tune up, plugs, wires and boots

Going to see the truck after the weekend, owner is taking it out of town. I'd like to see it 13K-13.5K- is that an unreasonable price?

I'm in California, and I see plenty of them listed around that price. However that doesn't mean they sell at that price. I don't think it's far off though either. What I've noticed is that the clean well maintained trucks command a premium and depending on how long it's been up for sale and how urgently it needs to be sold I'd be a little surprised if the owner took anything less than 14k. Just my

It's within the ballpark (yes used Tacoma's are way too expensive). here in Seattle, some are piced as high as$17K with similar mileage and condition. I was looking for exactly the same one for 2 years until I stumbled upon this. I cannot believe it, it was on Autotrader for $9,500 from a Chevy Dealer in Port Orchard, WA. 1.5 hour drive from Seattle. I immediately took off and headed to Port Orchard and crossing my finger that no one will beat me to it. During the test drive, the salesman told me about the ABS light. Then upon returning to the dealership, he told me that they give a discount for the ABS light if I decide to deal the problem myself. Lo and behold, they took $800 off! So effectively, I only paid $8,700 (+plus tax and registration, they even waived the document fee!)! While I was pulling out my check book, another prospective buyer pulled in and was offering me $2,000 and give the deal to him. My answer was a big "NO"!
I fyou will be patient and set all the alerts on Craigslist and Autotrader to automatically send you emails whenever one is listed, you will eventually find one w/in your budget. Of course if you are in a hurry, there is a price to pay for that.

BTW, the specs: 2001 4x4 DCSB OR. 186K mi. 2 owner (CA and WA hence absolutely no rust). Linex, rear locker. Clean CarFax - no accident

Normally 4x4 double cabs go really quick and fetch top dollar. Both features add a lot to the price, but together they get top dollar.
SeattleCyclist, you stole that truck :).
If you can get it for less, then sure but if you really like it I wouldn't think about it too long. If it was in California, I would be surprised it wasn't sold already. Maybe the market for used 1st gens is easier in Florida.

I was in the same boat. I just picked up a 2000 that needs some tlc and the ad had only been up for a few hours and I was the first person to look at it. This was after missing out on 2 others because they were too far away to go look at during the week.
