Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Maxtraxks are too expensive though. Keep in mind I still live in California, takes almost 2 hour drive to see snow... I'll stick with the 4runner guys when I go out ;)

True, but I'd perfer dents over cracks. Just personal preference... I got the optima red top battery in mine, does well... didn't really do my research, and went with the old timers words. Hear they aren't the quality they used to be. Haven't ran the battery hard yet, so I haven't noticed much a difference.

They are pricy, but you also gotta think about what your time is worth. If you get stuck in snow, most of the times maxtraks will get you out of the hole in only a couple min. If you are trying to use a shovel to dig out, or set up a winch or drag out, your looking at longer than a couple min. Maybe an hour or longer. At that cost, the value of my time would justify the purchase. Of course, it also depends on how often you visit said snow covered backroads.

Best of luck man, and dont forget to post pics of this winter, its suppose to be an epic snow season for the South West, im looking forward to it!

Maybe, I'll hook them up to my suzuki and tow it up there. Only thing is, it won't be road legal no more... but anywho, I'm excited for this year, even with this drout, I'm having a blast ! I'll be sure to post !

Anywho, keep in mind california doesn't get much snow... most roads are closed when it does snow... I'm just trying to prepare for the worst. Unsure of a snow driving school when it snows only 2 to 3 months in the year, off and on... and that's 2 hour drive to even see some snow.

A slew of pricey stuff my wife hates me for.
I had a red top in my 95.5 years ago, and it took a serious beating and never quit. But I've heard the same thing about the new ones, so I'm going to use an actual $200-400 marine battery.

The other thing to do is watch the weather forecast.

    If rain is forecast, go.

    If snow is forecast, go.

If "Winter Storm Warnings" (not "Winter Storm Watch") are forecast for the area, just stay home. At best, the weather will be bad enough you won't be able to hunt or whatever you were planning, at worst you'll be dangerously caught out.
