So I picked up an MTX Thunder 7500 DVC 4 ohm 12 inch sub today. These aren't sold anymore but got great reviews. From what I could find its rated at 400 rms and I couldn't find a peak power for it. I found a really good deal on an amp but it's rated at 1100 watts I think. My question is will that much power blow the sub? Or is there a way to turn down the power a little? I'm still trying to learn about all this. Any advise is appreciated.

    you don't need peak power,
You should always have more available power for subs than to little.

    What amp is it

A boss monoblock. So it would be safe to use?

well, whats the model number lol. Boss isn't a high value amp nor do i believe your going to get 1100wrms out of it.

for example a quick search of boss 1100 i got this
    • Max Power @ 2 Ohms: 1100 Watts
    • RMS Power @ 4 Ohms: 250 Watts....
So at 250 @ 4 ohms but your subs is a dvc 4 ohm which would be a 2 ohm final load which would most likely make around 400 wrms but still

You buy a boss amp and you won't even be getting 400rms to that sub lol... Don't buy boss it's not a deal it's a ripoff and garbage

Any and all amps on this site are of quality and all do rated... Sundowns got a 600 for 200$ or you could get a amp for when you want more/powerful sub/subs... Twisted sounds 1.3kw amp is a good deal amps do well over rated... I personally have a twisted sounds 1.8kw that dyno'd 2400rms... And in the 15-16v range this beast was doing 3500+

Hey guys thanks for all the responses. Don't worry after what everyone was saying about the boss I didn't go with it. I just got caught up in the cheap prices. I actually went with a ken wood that was on sale that pushes 350 rms which is the perfect range for my one sub. My friend said that he had a boss amp and it kept overheating and went into protection mode so he had to let it cool off to play it again and eventually it just crapped out on him. Thanks for all the advise guys

If your looking for ultra budget line amps, I would probably be looking at Hifonics - I've researched much on car audio (to get re-familiarized on who's good and who isn't as good anymore since so much has changed in the past 10 years) over the past two months in terms of reading and watching lots of you tube videos of reviews, amp bench tests, and guys just screwing around with equipment. Hifonics is somehow an ok name where the manufacturer power rating is actually provided (I suspect they may be a pure Chinese company that just copies old but good amp designs and layouts). That said, I'm not sure of the audio quality once its passed through those amps. When it comes to car audio, you get what you pay for.

If you can budge a bit on the budget, I would possibly look into at least the Alpine MRV (V-power) line.

The funny things is you'd be shocked how many "companies" share build houses lets just say that. I deal with this on a day to day basis. For the main stream north american market you generally get what you pay for, but then you also have to factor in the "name brand fee". I.e i know of quite a few brands not mainstream NA that produces more power, smaller footprint, better technology, and 1/2 the price of most of the NA name brands.

Most amps are made in China, some in Malaysia and then Korea is known in the Audio world to make some of the best amps, especially the big power amps. Again here I'm not talking about your JL audio, kenwood, etc. IM talking about the american bass VFL, Digital design, Rd, Shok industry, big sundown amps etc. the list goes on.

Now different series amps are also made in different build houses, I.e the AB1100.1 is made in a different build house/ country that the ph4000 just as an example and this goes for pretty much every single amp out there. ( probably not JL though)

That's exactly what I mean... I read up on PPI and Orion and sound stream for example..and how they were all acquired, and are now part some company I've never even heard of. It's just terrible.

JL to me appears to be the only 'pure' audio manufacturer still around at least stateside.

Yea all the company's are based in the United States they just all have their amps
Sourced out and built in other country's for obvious expense reasons they do warranty claims and repairs state side tho... My mtx amp went to az for repairs and my Orion went to fl for repair twice lol

Glad you guys are having a nice amp convo in my thread  I wish I understood half of what you guys are talking about lol. My kenwood amp I installed works just fine for me. Pushes the sub enough to what I was looking for
