tpack what is the Denver dealer? I am on the Front Range and starting to shop around. I would rather go to a dealer that is straight to the point.

32k for a Double cab, TRD Off-Road, V6 with a 6-speed M/T. In Quicksand, will go up with the add-ons I want. Figured that is a good deal especially since I will have about 10k for a down payment.

I fully agree. However, i do realize that some people are in need of wheels at the moument. These stealerships are taking advantage of the situation right now. I plan on buying a fully loaded Double cab Long bed 4x4 Sport with a lot of options like leather. I am like you, I am not paying over 37,000.00 for it OTD. I plan on waiting at least 9 months to review customer reviews. By then all of the hoop la will be settled down and the stealerships would be ready to seriously deal with someone with cash in hand and no trade in.

Would you be willing to post the entire quote less personal information?

Also would you share what state you are in?

    Thanks

Hello all, long time reader first time poster to the forums as well as first time Tacoma buyer.

I'd like to see what others think about the offer I got the other night.

    TRD-OF access cab 4x4 v6
only getting the tow package no other additions.
    $33,500

I put this quote up against another dealer which does a higher volume to see if they'd do $33,000, and they said they wouldn't take such a "steep" loss and would only sell at MSRP, which by my estimates that was still ~$1,000 above dealer invoice... so naturally I said thank you for your time and left (proverbally, I actually just hit reply and typed it like a bad-ass).

Regardless, I have the above offer in the 2nd lowest sales tax area in the state at 8.5% which will save me ~$400 from buying it in KC. I'm thinking this is going to be about as good as it gets for talking them down.

    Thanks.

Let's see here. MSRP for that vehicle is $32,950. Applying a similar percentage (92.6%) of the invoice/msrp for the TRD OFF ROAD DOUBLE CAB 4X4 V6 AUTO, you get an approximate invoice of $30,512. The tow package invoice is $579, giving you a total invoice of $31,091. I think you are paying MSRP with that quote.

Edit: Just wanted to say welcome to Tacoma World. It's been a great resource for me. Stick around and you will find the same.

I neglected to mention that it includes the $900 destination fee on my original numbers. Fixing that I get...

$33,500 - $900 = $32,600 as the actual price of the truck, since the destination fee is locked in and doesn't change.

I agree with your dealer invoice computation and also get $31,091. The build sheet from toyota shows MSRP on this at $34,500 ($32,950 base + $650 tow package + $900 delivery)

So I'm still roughly ~$1,500 over dealer invoice ($32,600-$31,091 = $1,509), I tried to get one at $1,000 over but had 0 luck as no one was even willing to consider that price.

I guess that leads my question to be, is this reasonable or not. I've never purchased new before, and I really wasn't expecting to get a "sweet" deal on a new generation first release vehicle, but also am not interested in getting the wool pulled over my eyes being inexperienced in vehicle negotiations.

    Thanks for the reply rodeho.

Any time dude. After I posted that I thought to myself, he probably included destination in that. But oh well.

I am shooting for invoice, less destination. People on these forums are posting their offers and receiving invoice pricing. I am in a small market with only about 5 dealers within a 100 mile radius. Three that I have really only talked to. That won't stop me from trying anyone I can that is within a reasonable drive. Shop that price. There has to be someone out there willing to deal.

I guess it really all depends on how soon you need the truck. If you don't need it ASAP, take your time, shop around and get a price that you are comfortable with. A good deal to you might not be a good deal to someone else. I have a car right now that functions just fine. So I won't budge until I get the price I want and am comfortable with. Good luck and keep us posted.

The best advice so far has been to tell people to wait. Fact of the matter is, nobody has their truck yet so we don't know true out the door prices.

Your correct, the amount of the destination fee will always be $900. Any waived fee or deduction comes out of the base price for the truck. You'd see this in the final paperwork for the vehicle. You can use this fee as a negotiation point to get the price of the truck lower.

That said, the only thing that matters is the out the door price, which I don't know if any dealers have committed to yet. I've seen a few scribbles on dealer printouts, but those are far from binding. Think of a total price that you would be ok spending (which includes tax, title, registration, destination, fees), then use that to deal with. If a dealer doesn't want to move on price, either walk or think of concessions (accessories, service, etc...) that you'd be ok with.
